"....or circuit fault"

Many of the ECU Fault codes listed in the Haynes Manual list the problem part, followed by "...or circuit fault".

Can anyone explain what the "...or circuit fault" means?

Another question: My Haynes manual lists the fault code 0101 twice. Once for an upstream oxygen sensor heater, and secondly for the camshaft position sensor.

I've read a couple of threads regarding this, but haven't found any definitive answers. Is there still confusion over this? Does the ECU really have the same DTC code for two different problems? My car recently threw this code (along with an 0407 [Crankshaft position sensor (REF)]) and was wondering which sensor (upstream oxygen, or camshaft position) I should check out.

Thanks in advance for any info!

John

"...or circuit fault" mean that either the sensor is bad, or there is a problem with the wiring for that sensor.
