Allright guys.....Anybody know of a good cure for a sticking parking brake. It only seems to happen when it's below freezing outside. I just did the first brake job at 100K (how's that for Nissan Pads!!), It temporarily cured the sticking, but guess what, it's back. Anyway way to salvage the situation without shelling out big bucks for rear calipers? (Bleeding, etc....)

 

Discribe the problem. Can you release the brake after pulling it? Can you push the button in and let it off? How does it 'stick'?

the sticking e-brake is all to popular with the max. it happens to my max sometimes too. i have asked the question before and others have it when its real cold out. there is water within the brake line. it just gets in there. when it is cold out it freezes the line so it will not come all the way down. if you play with it and drive back and forth with your e-brake on it will losen it up. i don't use it e-brake in the winter now. you could get a new brake line and see if it works.

 

yep same problem here, can lube the cable, but when its way cold still does it. i actually had the right one replaced under my extended warranty. and they loosened up the left, but its doing it again so should get that one replaced also. damn thing

 

Don't use your ebake unless you are parked on a hill. The cold weater coupled with moisture will cause any vehucle's ebrake to stay locked. Rocking back ad forth will usually release the brake unless the ice build up is too thick. Then you better drag it into a heated garage...

 

???Must be a manual trans kinda thing. I have an auto and never use the ebrake, and therefore don't have any problems.

I use my e-brake all the time, even though I'm an automatic (force of habit from when I had a manual) and it came and bit me in the ***.

This winter's been harsher than usual in NYC and it got to the point where my cable was totally messed up and my rear brakes were leaking and cracked. Had to replace my brakes. Huge headache.

 

DO NOT USE YOUR E-BRAKE IN WINTER!

Mine froze into place a couple of years back. Not all the way but maybe 20%. Didn't realize it for a mile or so when I smelled the pad burning.

By the time I got off the highway my rotor was glowing red hot.

Warranty covered the pad, caliper, and the warped rotor but it still scared the crap out of me.

 

My car does the same thing when it is freezing outside. Yeah I have a Manual Trans. What I do is put the brake down and put it in First and for say pulls out of a parking space that I'm in. It releases it self from the moving of the car. I have taken my car to the Dealer about the same problem and they say that there is not a thing that they can do about it. But just to greace the cables and that don't help at all. So that is how I fix the problem. Just to let you know it doesn't hurt the brakes.

 

Im an auto-- and i use my ebrake all the time-- i guess i will stop putting it up now-- buts a force of habit !
