I hope it's 200K+....check my sig: I'm up to 150k+, but granted, it's an auto. No performance mods, no tranny nor engine work.

No kidding. I'm at 159,000 on a '96 SE and I thought that I had a lot of miles. Someone must be living in their car...literally.

No, haven't slept in the Max yet...although I slept in my Saturn when I had that....not too comfortable.

the maximas are great engines that will last forever. I bought my car @110k, now it's about 124k and got it modded up. These VQs will last forever.

I just bought a '98 Maxima SE with 166,000 miles. The last owner was a salesman who drove it from Scottsdale, AZ to Tucson, AZ regularly. The miles were a blessing... I got a *smokin'* deal!

This Max runs great and is in very good shape. I don't know if it burns any oil or not yet, since I've only had it a week. It does not leak anything

I plan on having the tranny flushed. Anyone have any other thoughts on preventive maintenance because of the high mileage? Oil recommendations? I would run synthetic in a lower mileage engine, but I'm tempted to use the high-mileage stuff from Valvoline or Castrol in this one.

put synt in a engine with that many miles on it for the first time may not be the smartest thing to do. you will end up washin all the sludges out of it

Oddly, that's kind of the point of the high-mileage oils. They remove some of the crud that has collected in the engine and condition various seals to help improve compression and stop leaks. Or so they say, anyway.

I've put synthetics and syn-blends in other high-mileage engines without a problem. I have a '91 Storm (not for much longer though!) that has 140k miles and has run syn-blend since about 80k. Absolutely no leaks... but it burns a quart every 3k miles

Although my previous car was a 3rd Gen Maxima, I had 274,000 miles on it before I had an accident and it cost more to repair than what it was worth. I bought it at 100K and I had to replaced the auto tranny at roughly 200K, but that was the only major repair I ever had on the car. Engine was still very strong till the day I wrecked it and never used a lick of oil. Matter of fact, my new wife and I took it down from Mississippi to DisneyWorld for our honeymoon 8 years ago and it got 27MPG on that trip going and coming. I 'think' it had about 180K on it at that time. I had a cheap paint job performed on it (Maaco for about $300) and it honestly could have almost passed easily as a two or three year old car they day I wrecked it. I always used dino oil and changed it every 3K miles. It truley was a great car and I might still be driving it today if I hadn't gotten into a wreck. But, that started my love affair with the Maxima and I went two days later and bought a '95 GLE and brought it home. But that was the last time I was actually able to drive it (up until a month ago when I bought her a new minivan and I inherited the Maxima) because as soon as I drove it into my driveway my wife remarked "I just love my new car!". So, I bought a used Acura Legend. I love the Maxima engine so much that it was a major decision in my new minivan purchasing decision so I happily bought her the '04 Nissan Quest which has the Maxima engine in it as well.

Well, I got one of those deals I just couldn't resist. I had a Legend GS Sedan and while it was extremely fast, powerful, and reliable, it just had too many of those little annoying problems that really ended up bugging me to death. Sold the Legend in favor of the Maxima due to the Legend having more miles and my wife drives like a little ole' lady.
