Misfiring, need advice

Hello,

My 99GLE has been having a rough idle lately. I brought the car to the dealer and the service manager sat in the front seat and after 2 seconds said I have a coil going bad, but since the check engine light isn't going on, it will be hard to find which one is bad.

He also said that if I end up replacing just one, I would be back soon to replace more.

All said he quoted me around $800 to replace all the coils.

Is he feeding me a line?

Thanks,

-Mike

don't listen to that idiot
if the car misfires bad enough, it will throw a code
when my car was misfiring, i floored it and made it knock...so i could get a CEL code telling me which cylinder was the problem
i replaced that coil and no others...and my car has been fine for months
DO NOT replace them all...they're talking **** trying to make money off of you.
also, install it yourself because its just a clip and 2 screws...dont let them charge you like an hour of labour for such an easy install

Thanks for the info. I guess I will wait till it gets worse, and then take it to my family mechanic to fix. He's always been honest. I just went to the dealer b/c I happened to be driving by with a few minutes to kill
