Can't wait for the track, JWT ECU installed

I got a JWT ECU today, and it is great to finally rev this MEVI up to 7000rpm. It feels awesome. I am not sure the difference over my G-force ecu as far as time, but I hope for 1-2 tenths in the 1/4 mile. The downside is that I live 4 hours from the track now instead of two. Unsuspecting 5-speed maximas better watch out for this automatic though.

This is what i dont understand in getting an auto's limit raised, wont your auto automatically switch gears before it gets any higher than 6550??unless u use first-second gear..

Manual shifting lets you do whatever you want.

MEVI makes it pull hard all the way to redline. I loved my g-force ecu, but 6500 came way too fast.

Hm, is there any way to change the shift computer to shift at 7000rpm, (Assuming you have a JWT ECU already) IIRC, JWT did have some sort of shift computer mod but I don't know exactly what it did.

Yes, it really does pull straight to 7000rpms. The MEVI makes peak power at 6100rpms with power only falling off ~3-5% at 7000rpms.

It will be for sale shortly, I am gonna take it to the track and test them back to back next time I go. I don't wanna let it go just yet in case I run faster with it. (highly doubt it).

From Cattman's Website:

3-Mode Automatic Transmission TCU Upgrade

Jim Wolf Technology
TECU-M
1995-1996 Maxima/I30 all models w/ automatic transmission
___________
TECU-Q
90-96 Infiniti Q45

$470 Maxima
$625 Infiniti

Upgrades transmission controller, using switch to select from 3 modes: 1) stock settings
2) performance up- and down-shift points
3) traction mode that locks out first gear.

Stock ECU can be sent in for direct modification or exchanged w/ a core With a $300 core charge upgraded ECU is sent from JWT, working original unit returned after installation (w/in 15 days) for credit. No core charge if customer’s ECU is sent in for upgrade.

I thought this would be nice to have but for that amount of money I think I'll stick to manually shifting it.

I sense that you'll be getting a new best. Isn't your current best a 14.4@98mph? I'm thinking 14.2@99mph now.

BSwithTF-

You need to get up to Kansas City and make some runs. Apparently traction has gotten really good and nearly everyone is getting new bests everytime they go. I doubt you'll be able to match Sleeper's ET/MPH because his track is at sea level, but I think 14.5-14.6 is now possible for you at KCIR.

You'd be silly to even consider the G-Force if you have plans on getting the MEVI.

OK 'Dave B' and a few others.
Im thinking about going MEVI with a chip kinda like this. Or boost, but i believe the MEVI setup would be better for everday use. 1 Question> How fast are you? really, like whats the HP advantage on the punch on these mevi setups you guys are talking about. Are we talkin amazing N/A power being brought out, ive read the threads on mevi gains but whats a good comparison on the street do you see. racing, ect.. btw im an auto. thanks if you can get to this q on ecu's and mevi's
thanks mwest

Honestly how does it feel shifting at 7000?

It's on the list, but there is one thing in front of it

I am waiting on 1 person and letting him be the crash test dummy before I commit.

Where do you end up RPM/MPH wise when you shift into 4th at redline in 3rd?

I know you may not have gone that far or NEVER go that far.... Just curious, due to the lag at 130-140 SUCKS.. well N/A anyway

If we had better cams/valves we could actually get it to 7700rpm. I know NEALoc187 had his valves float at or above 7200rpm which is bad...

I can't speak for the others, but I feel no "boost" in power. What's different is the fact that the motor pulls straight to fuel cut. The difference in acceleration is more noticable in 3rd gear and the above gears if you're above 5500rpms. The power is seamless. I doubt there is no change in all out acceleration Gs, but the sustained Gs are probably higher, but you really can't feel that.

It's kind of like comparing the LS1 F-Body to the LT1 F-Body. The LT1 feels far more powerful, but the LS1's powerband is longer which makes it a faster car even though it feels slower.

It feels completely normal to shift at 7000rpms. The MEVI VQ lacks the buzziness and strained intake noise therefore it's happy to rev that high.

At 7000rpms in 3rd, you're looking at approximately 104mph.

I've never kept my foot in to 4th so I don't know if the lag is still there at 130-140mph.

It was not valve float. He really doesn't know what it was, but it's not doing it anymore. I have been to 7200 many times with no issues.

Bags, I have not fully tested, but the gears seem to go about 10mph longer than before, instead of 40-80-120 mph shifts, it seems to be 50, 90, and I assume 130 even though I have not done it. The RPM's land at about 4500rpm after each shift which is great, because that is around the torque peak.

You don't really feel any power power from the MEVI, its not a kick like a S/C or nitrous. It just pulls harder for a longer amount of time. More area under the curve. I alreay had an ecu at the time, but adding the MEVI got me about 4 tenths and 4 mph at the track which is a huge gain.

I forgot too, I went to the local 1/8th mile last night and got 1 run in (too crowded). I didn't take anything out of my car or put on my 15 inch wheels or adjust my suspension or tire pressure. I didn't let my car cool down or anything. The track is at 2000 ft elevation and the temp was in the 70's with high humidity. I will not say the time because it was bad, but I trapped 76.5 mph, which is not my best but it shows promise because of the conditions. Can't wait for cooler weather and Steele 1/4 mile.

I don't know if they even sell the g-force any more, but I think I paid $400 or $425 for it when I got it a few years ago. A JWT ecu is like $565 I think. Unless you buy used, which is a good deal. I bought it used so I didn't have to buy a spare ecu which would have been another $100 or so.
