compression question
compression question
I have a 97 gxe auto w/ 117,000+ miles on it. I did a compression test on my car and came up with some funny numbers. Now i no the base psi is suppose to be 185 and min is 142psi. So what is up if you come up with 212psi on all 6 cylinders. Help me out here guys/gals.

Is car stock or modified, particularly heads or cam? Are you sure you did the test correct? You shouldn't have to worry about higher compression as long as the all six cyl are within 10% of each other. Higher compression means it'll run a little hotter, be more sensitive to knocking and give better torque down low.
it means there is lots of carbon build up
run the test again and see if same numbers come out also make sure the engine is at operating temp
and throttle is at WOT during the test
crank the engine 5 times and read gauge.
