Y-pipe Not For Automatic ??????

i went to a garage today and asked him if he could change the y-pipe for my car (which is automatic ) and he said that its not good installing a aftermarket (stillen, budget etc..) y-pipe on a automatic tranny ... he was not too sure of what the f*ck he was saying, so now i am asking to all the pro of .org.. IS IT TRUE that aftermarket y-pipe like stillen or budget are not good for automatic cars???

No, it is not true, and he has no idea what he is talking about.

Why the hell would your transmission have anything to do with wether or not you could install a downpipe? Your "mechanic" should be thrown off a cliff and chopped into little peices.

But seriously, what the F does a pipe that connects your upper manifolds to your cat have to do with your tranny? You should be able to logically come to that conclusion on your own.

He must be one of those "all mods hurt your car" people. Had one on my auto for about 4 years now and she's still in one piece.

tell me about it, I went to this shop to get my alignment done (because I have a free tire balance coupon with them) and I ask the guy how much to replace the ypipe; and he was looking at the thing for 10 sec then ask me why I wan to change it cuz it still looks good. I told him it will give me more performance, he disagreed, then told me I shouldn't do it because of this and that. He even said it's hard to take it off and replace

I love my warpspeed by the way, and mine is auto

a lot of those guys lie to keep you from doing anything illegal. "um yea...300 dollars to change that intake" trans has nothing to do with exhaust on this car, on some others yea it can change the bends etc...no worries

Dont be so quick to judge if you dont know the whole story.

Maybe the mechanic didnt want to take your job... Many mechs are textbook schooled and dont know much about the aftermarket nor deal with the hassle of return customers due to misinstallation.

"The "Y" pipe comes with a few warnings: it substantially increases and changes noise levels of both the exhaust and the interior. It should not be used with automatic cars that have the STILLEN supercharger fitted." --- you dont have a supercharger, do ya?

GET YOUR CAR THE ƒÜ©k away from that crock of $#!7. That would be like calling up Circuit City and asking if they have replacement flux capacitors for amps, and then taking your car in after they say yes.

Always judge a mechanic by his basic knowledge.

stock muffler quiets everything down... and can help when using a Y pipe, straights instead of cat or B pipe, etc.
