98 Maxima P1446 Error Code from Autozone
Hi
My Service engine soon light came on and I found the error code out from autozone. It wa giving two error codes and both of them were P1446 error codes on the little handheld that they have. I searched these forums and its seems that the best option would be to replace the EVAP canister and the EVAP control valve for the emissions system. It seems like a straightforward fix, but I have only changed the oil and done the front brakes on the car before, so I am a total novice. I must be able to do this myself, i go to school and dont have the cash to pay for the $400 repair from the dealer when the parts are only $100 and I have the time. Do i need a full set of tools to perform this thing or what?
Any help on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated!
Should I check the ECU error, the procedure i perform next to the gas pedal, or should i take the error code from the diagnostic test done at autozone?
Thanks,
crisper

I must have missed something with that last reply....
anyways, what you need is a small set of tools, i think you can get away with sizes 10 12 and 14 mm for this. Its very easy to do, all you need to do is figure out exactly which parts you need, I find that most of the time the evap control valve is malfunctioning and needs replacing, a 70 dollar part from the dealership...buy a small set of tools from your local autozone along with a manual for fixing, and take the dive. its mad easy to do, takes around 45 minutes to do. you'll be happy once you do it. try it out.
