1997 Maxima for $7500...I think its a GLE..good deal?
Well i called up a guy in the paper and he said he had a 97' maxima with 80k miles and it has leather and a bose system and abs brakes and is 4 doors. was the gle the only one with bose or was it an option on the other models?
i got the vin number but my carfax expired 6 days ago so i don't know how it checks out. car is about 45 mins - an hour from me so i'll probably test drive it sometime. the guy also said he bought and extended warranty on it so it still has a warranty of some sort.
anyways....is this a good deal if it is a gle and what if its an se or gxe?
also, how do quarter mile times differ from gxe, se, and gle models?

The deal is ok if it is in a good condition. GLE is the highest trim of Maxima, and the mileage is not too high.

what are some things i should be aware of when checking out a car? also, for auto consumer guide here are the trouble spots:
Trouble Spots
Automatic transmission: The original automatic-transmission (model F04) shift solenoids allowed slipping and premature wear. (1997)
Brake noise: Rear brakes rattle on rough road. (1995)
Brake noise: Groaning from the rear brakes is caused by the parking brakes not fully releasing, requiring new brake cables and pads. (1995-99)
Clutch: The clutch may slip when accelerating hard in 4th or 5th gear due to a problem with the friction material. (1995)
Engine knock: Spark knock or ping may result from a defective onboard computer. (1995-97)
Engine noise: Noise from the front of the engine may be caused by excessive play in the timing chain for which a new tensioner and chain guide are required. (1995-96)
Hard starting: Hard starting, stalling, or stumbling under load could be caused by corrosion of the coolant sensor. (1995-96)
Hard starting: If the engine does not start on the first attempt, the engine may crank very slowly on the second attempt because of a problem with the engine-control computer. (1995)
Rough idle: Several problems (no-start, no A/C, rough running, etc.) can be traced to broken wires in the engine compartment where the harness bends near the right strut tower. (1995-97)
now how common are these problems? how easy are they to fix and how much would it cost to fix?

i just got a 98 gle (leather, power everything, bose, sunroof) in PERFECT condition, with 90k for 8,000..
not to steal the thread, but does anyone know characteristic problems i should look for with my 98?
