Maxima '99 ODB II code 1320

Maxima 1999 with 75,000 miles. I cleared code 1320 “Primary ignition signal” 2 times. Now I got it again. What can be a problem? How to fix it?

Its you coil packs. Best idea from me is to replace all of them. Search for my previous posts and notice the ohm readings I recommend. Regardless if one is gone then others will be on their way out soon. If you can isolate which side of the engine they are failing on then replace all three on that side....then do the others as you have money.
I suggest getting them at nissan-parts-dealer.com they have great prices.

P1320 "Ignition Signal Primary"

This ignition coil problem is common on all Maxima from year 95-00. The first years Nissan used distributorless engine. Instead of using one coil with distributor, Nissan used each individual coil for each individual cynlinder. The coil is manufactured defective by vendor. However, it likely happened when your car reaches over 40k miles. If your "Service Engine Soon" light is ON again after cleared it. With the code is P1320, it tells you that one or more cylinders having misfired. The more time you wait, the more you will feel the engine rough while driving since the bad coil gets worse. However, the computer likely can detect which coil number is bad.

The bad thing is that Nissan did not recall. Nissan admitted this problem and had redesigned a new coil for better life. A few people have told me that they filed the complain to Nissan Customer Complaint Report and got a free labor but they have had to pay the parts. Cost of each coil is around $68-85 depend upon dealers. I have found these two Nissan dealers where you can order these parts on-line
at discount prices: www.courtesynissan.com and www.bankstonnissan.com

In my case, it happened to 99 Maxima. I cleared the code after the service light was ON. The second time, I had both "ignition signal primary" and "cynlider #2 misfired". I did not change all six coils as the dealer suggestion. I changed only one by myself and it worked fine since. Changing a coil is not difficult except for the ones on rear.
