water pump....tensioner?

water pump....tensioner?

quick question....i'm getting my water pump changed out, do i need to get the tensioner also? the service guy at nissan said that i should do that. what do you guys think?

yup.. the thing is a cheap POS.. i have seen many break.. If you are in there replacing the pump replace the tensioner

might as well do the timing belt as well, since they are all so close to each other

OK Spark plug wires might be a good idea. And the Dist cap

Don't forget the rear drum pads, they tend to bind & wear out quite quickly.

I just had my water pump changed and now there is a clatter sound from the timing CHAIN. Would messing with the tensioner while changing the WP make it go out?

Unlikely...probably it was already bad...the early 4th gens had this problem. In retrospect, they should've replace the tensioner.

He said he pulled it out and inspected it and it looked okay so he reinstalled it. I don't think he was aware of the problems associated with the tensioner. I'm supposed to take it over there and let him listen to it.
