I have 142k miles on my automatic 96. I was wondering what i should to prep my car for the long trip.

check your fluids, tire pressure, etc.

 

a pack of swisher cigarillos, a lighter, and some dvds....You're straight..

DVD's are cool tho....

If it is near time, or would be time to change the oil during your trip, do it.
Check your fluids, set tire pressure to correct psi, make sure all your lights work, and throw a set of jumpers, extra oil, gallon of water, and make sure you can locate your jack and wrenches, and that they work properly.

AND THE #1 THING TO DO: INFLATE YOUR SPARE TO THE CORRECT PSI AND MAKE SURE IT HAS NO LEAKS! Most people forget to do that.

 

when in doubt, change your oil to synthetic

... and have your wheellock key handy

 

Yeah Baby!! I have 134k on my 96 and going about 1200 miles also to FLA. in about a month or so....its a MAX! don't worry!

 

I drove a Max I bought in Oklahoma back to Michigan (about 1000 miles), took about 15 hours with only a few small breaks.

No problems at all.
