Potential auto transmission problem??

I have a 96' I 30. When I'm in second gear and give it a fair amount of gas, (to make it downshift into 1st) it sometimes clunks or sounds less than smooth. Otherwise the transmission shifts fine. The fluid is red and at the proper level. The car has 110K on it.

Does this sound abnormal or am I needlessly worrying?

Thanks!

better safe than sorry......

take it in and get an inspection......
you may be out of your car for a day, but it is better a day and $60.00 than a week and $800.00 - $1200.00

if you search on this forum, a lot of automatic users had the same problem(im in). Some times the tranny start to has a problems on it:
1. the 80% valve body slipping(solenoids or VB)
2. 20% is for very used tranny parts inside, i mean, torque converter, disc, bands etc.

I have already replace my VB 2 times...the first time cause the oil was bad and i didt realize after that( i bought a used car). Then....after 15,ooo miles my tranny start to had a problem after a track, the important thing is that all the part of my tranny was very bad before this track race. So after i rebuilt the tranny i installed a new VB to avoid any later problem.

well well...my suggestion is:
You should check the tranny ASAP because a bad part inside will produce dirty on in and this "dirty" will kill your VB. Sometimes the VB has a little metal part inside coming for TC or other part so it will be stuck on the VB and produce some problems like yours.

Maybe you just need a tranny flush(but a really tranny flush not just replace the fluid), and thats it.

Do you think it could be that the motor mounts are worn out and causing the clunking sound from 2nd to first? Just curious, how much does it cost to have a valve body replaced?

Thanks again for you help.
