This is what you do.
1. Fill up tank all the way
2. Reset trip odometer to 0 ( press the black needle once till TRIP A appears, then press and hold it for few seconds till it resets to 0)
3. drive untill the tank is almost out (close to E)
4. go to gas station and fill up the tank.
5.write that the amount of gallons u just put in to fill up the tank.
6.divide the number of miles u just drove (look at trip A) by number of gallons u just put in.
what mods u got on ur car? if u got big *** 19 inch rims then ud expect bad mileage!

there's a light, but it's been known to not light up until you're dangerously low...
the only time I ever saw mine was during/after the northeast blackout. it went on while I was on my way home from class. I had planned to fill up on the way home, but the pumps were out because we were powerless.
when I tried to start my car the next morning, it took two cranks to start. first and only time that my car has taken more than one crank to start, EVER.
I was afraid of not even making it to the shell station, heh.
as for testing gas mileage... yeah, do what doggy said. reset the tripo and run it near empty, then do the math.
if your gas mileage is still horrible, you might have a problem. check your ecu for codes, I'd suspect a knock sensor.
p.s. - flooring it all the time will KILL your gas mileage, incase you were unaware.

I get crappy mileage in the city, because I like the sound of my intake.
But on the highway I actually got 33mpg this weekend (137.4 miles, 4.14 gallons). I was incredibly proud of my Maxima. So I'm going to change its oil and wash it real good in a couple weeks, clean the throttle body, maybe remove and brush off the KS (I've heard that this can smooth things out if your cars performance is sporadic).
And if I can get some webpage work going, this christmas might mean NOS kit #5124... we'll see.
