Need help with Y pipe

Hey guys, I've been on the process of selling my 4th gen. (95 5spd GLE) Maxima for about 6 mos. now. Well to be honest it's prettymuch been sitting and I have done little other than toss a post up on here. Well the exhaust has been noisy and my sister decided she wants to buy it, so I told her I would find out what was wrong with the exhaust and I'm offering the car to her for 2500 with a $800 XM radio system and a rebuilt tranny that was rebuilt 5k miles ago. Turns out the Y pipe needs to be replaced and Firestone gave me an estimate of $686 for the pipe and 200 for labor, seems a bit high... However I know the Y-pipe is one of the more common performance mods on the Maxima so I'm thinking rather than pay the high amount for the Nissan part why not get an aftermarket Y-pipe. So my questions are as follows...

1.) What are the chances of passing emissions with the aftermarket pipe
2.) What are some good sources to get the pipe from
3.) What are the chances of finding a used stock Y-pipe for a good price
4.) Does anyone know of a place in IL. or Wi. that would install the pipe
5.) Does any particular Y-pipe seem to be preffered

Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated.

1. Near 100%, as long as your main cat is good.
2. http://maxmods.dyndns.org/?MaximaYpipes
3. Sometimes you can find them, check the 4th gen for sale area
4. Nope, but it should be about $100-150, maybe less
5. http://maxmods.dyndns.org/?MaximaYpipes (again)

Safe to assume the Budget F pipe is the Y pipe? Lastly, are there any drawbacks to an aftermarket Y pipe other than the possible cold start emissions problems?

Thanks again,
Ike

1) Yes.

2) No, unless you don't want your car to sound slightly more aggressive under WOT, or if an extra 12 ponies bothers you. Buy the Y.

Oh, and uh, please read below your screen name. (Y-pipes are one of the most talked about things on the .org).

Sorry, I did some searches but wasn't getting many good hits because it was restricting the length of my words... Also wanted to be able to show the answers to the questions my sister might have all in one post. Thanks for all the help guys and the good links Drew. I feel better about selling the car to my sister now. I'll miss the car, but at least now it'll actually get used. And I have a garrage space for my new car

Regards,
Ike

ok heres my 2 cents. Dont worry about anything, you can change all the y pipe and catback exhaust(all after catal.). The only thing you have to keep to pass the emission is the catalityc. I buy a warspeed y pipe and Apexi WS catback it cost me both 631 bucks and i installed my self(i felt like a really mechanic after that jejeje).
So dont spend your money on OEM parts, all this setup will give you a good ponys so enjoy that and save your pocket.
