Problems changing MT oil.

I tried to loosen the drain plug, not happening. I tried to take out the sensor thing and it broke by the bolt but won't come out. Any suggestions besides taking it to a transmission shop.

my drain plug is also stripped so I drained it from the sensor. after you unscrew the bolts, I just wiggled it side to side until it comes out, It has a rubber gasket on there so you may have to pull and wiggle on it to get it loose, maybe use a flathead screwdriver and carefully pry up on it without damaging the plastic housing or gasket. I think the only other option is to remove an axle and drain it from there but thats probably the last resort.

How does the drain plug get stripped? I thought you just used the end of an extension in the opening? I ask because I plan to do this soon and don't want to end up like you guys.

I don't think that taking the axles out is a good last resort. When you take out the axle it would probably be about 2 hours in labor just to get them off and on, and then when you do get it off, you will only loose about a quart or so of tranny fluid. Maybe syphin (or however its spelled) the fluid out of the filler hole. Take a piece of tube shove it in there and get one of your boys girlfriends to SUCK that **** out......... If I were you I would bring it to a tranny place to get it done, sometimes its just easier to let someone who deals with that type of problem on a regular basis do it. Or call them an see what they have to say about it.

mine was because it was on so damn tight and wouldnt budge. I think it may be because I bought my tranny used and the previous owner probably lived somewhere that had snow or something because the outside of the tranny case was all oxidized and crud built up around the drain bolt.

Just did mine last night...No problem at all. I m not sure how your drain plug got stripped, but it was very easy to remove . Not sure if some narrow vicegrip would work...It would help if you securely raise the car a little. I kept the car up until the oil drained completly. After that I leveled the car an filled the tranny. I used a clear plastic tube (2 ft from Lowes)& a funnel to fill. First 4 qts were quick, after that i filled up very slowly (expect some oil to seep when done). It takes about 4.5 qts.
I would say that it may be a good ideea to replace a stripped drain plug with a new one.
