take the car to dealer or local mechanic?

my car is getting realy sh*ty gas mileage (11mpg local) so I took it to three different mechanics and they all couldn't figure out wtf the problem is so as much as I hate having the dealers to check out the ecu codes or something ...I think those bastards are my only choice.....or should I just keep going to different local mechanics until I find a really good one that can fix this problem?

with all the threads about this floating around, I can't believe I'm even answering this, but someone has to do it I guess.

check the ecu codes yourself, it takes two minutes. it's probably your knock sensor.

read the sticky threads to figure out how to do it.
