How to: Disable Shift Interlock?

Does anyone know how to disable the shift interlock plastic gears on a auto. transmission?

The solenoid pin only pushes half-way, and requires the intervention of a screwdriver to fully push the locking mechanism out of the way. Leaving something lodged in the mechanism ( a pen ), is not an option, as the other plastic gear that is pushed out of the way has to return to it's original position in order to allow the ignition to release the key.

Anyone who has successfully found a way to cheat this system, your advice is appreciated. I really would like to avoid the $200 for parts / labour to fix this issue.

Thanks,

Mike
