You can't really see it that clearly in the sig.

I saw it in person. I personally think it looks only ok. Not that great. Mostly because the 4th gen muffler hole is round and the 5the gen is rectangular. Looks a little odd. But hey... that's just my personal opinion.

The reason you get a 5th gen muffler is becuase it's a variable-backpressure unit. Making it the most effective muffler for the ENTIRE power band, not that mufflers are terribly effective anyway. The cost is pretty steep...400 bucks...from Nissan. Try and find somebody that works at Nissan to get you whosale if you really want one. I personally don't think it's worth it for 400.

Muffler

Well, it should be just as quiet as the stock 97 muffler under normal driving conditions. I'm going to get the 2000 muffler and get a b-pipe from courtesy. Hopefully this will give a larger gain (especially on the low end) than the apex'i world sport cat-back. I'm trying to get a quiet system that is under $300 and gives great gains from 1000-5000 RPM. As for obtaining the muffler, I've been trying copartfinder.com hopefully I can get a muffler for $50.

How about the new I30's

muffler? Personally I think it is uglier than the Max's, but it might look better on the 4th gen.

The OEM P/N of the muffler we're talking about is 201003Y370

There are two mufflers available for the 2K Max. according to garrands@slic.com ; I was quoted $ 282.00 for one and $ 270.00 for two; Nissan list is $ 376.41 supposedly.

If other's are interested, I could try to work a group deal with them. Anyone else interested at below $ 270.00? This place is in New York State.

I don't have a big problem with the way it looks as is. It would look real nice is the 4th gen bumper cutout could be modified to match the muffler tip's shape.

I'm looking to add a Y pipe and would like to quiet the exhaust a little.

I totally agree with that, it would look awesome. I suggest waiting until someone here with a 5th gen replaces their muffler though, it would be a lot less expensive.
