max speed prob.

ok i have a 97 maxima se auto. My car used to stop at 121 and it wouldnt allow itself to go any further even though it wanted to. I read a post on the "how to remove your speed limiter" and it included snipping a pink wire with a blue stripe on the ecu connector, i did that and the service engine light came on like it said but i went back to try it and it limited itself at 115.. how come it became slower? should i soder the wire back together like b4? and if so how would i allow my max to pass my old 121 mph rec.? thx for any help

Your se DOES NOT HAVE A SPEED LIMITER!!!!

You need to turn "OD off" until you redline 3rd gear. That will be almost 130mph, like this:

Then hit OD on and you will shift into 4th at a much better RPM. But, it's very very slow going from 130 on up.

Your problem is not related to a speed limiter. You don't have one. GLE's and SE's don't have them; only some GXE's do. Just curious, why would you need to go over 121 mph?

I have gone over 140 as well. I'm not the most technical person in the world..maybe you should get a tune-up?!?

The speed limiter does not ease up to 120 and stay there. You go charging up to about 117 (indicated) and the the fuel cuts out violently. The engine drops to idle speed. As slow down past about 110, the fuel cuts back in and you go charging up to 117 again.

It isn't subtle.

Get a tune up, make sure you have at least 35psi in your tures and follow my previous instructions on how to break through the wall at 130 and keep going.

I'm unfortunate enough to have a limiter on my car, and I had no idea it was there until the first time I hit it. 119mph, the fuel cuts out.
the gas pedal gives out, the car drops to idle.

scared the living **** out of me the first time. my point is, if you have a speed governor, you WILL know when you hit it, no question.
