My 1998 Maxima (Auto Transmission) all of the sudden felt as if it roughly slid into neutral (but it was in drive). Upon pressing the accelerator it just revved the engine, didn't accelerate... then squealed and died. In an attempt to get off the road I started the car... the engine made a squeeling noise, I put it in drive and drove forward only to go through the same process of feeling a rough slide into neutral and and squeel and it died. Towed it home and want to get some feedback before I take it in tomorrow.

Does anybody have any ideas of what this could be?????

 

check your transmission fluid level first
