CEL Codes, What should I do?
CEL Codes, What should I do?
Hi there, I just pulled 3 codes from my car. 0401, 0701, and 0304. I'm not worried about the 0401 since it doesn't affect anything. My question is the 0701(Multiple Misfire) and the 0304(Knock Sensor). Should I reset the CEL and see if the 0701 and the 0304 are thrown again? Also, if they do appear again, where can a new knock sensor be purchased at, any auto parts store, or is it a dealer only item? How much do these typically cost?
Thanks,
-Rick

The Knock Sensor code when it appears with other codes is not usually your problem.
Misfire bad - that's your real problem.
The Knock Sensor is probably fine.
Remove all coil packs, remove and inspect all spark plugs, etc.
Looks like you've got some bad spark somewhere.
Could also be fuel - but check spark first.

What you said makes perfect sense!
I suppose the misfire is sending some vibrations through the block, which in turn fire the Knock Sensor code.
I had planned on changing out the spark plugs since I have no idea when they were last done. I come from the Mustang world, and all I have ever used are cheap copper plugs. They work best for performance, and are cheap enough to replace frequently. It seems to be the general consensus around here to use platinum plugs. Now my question is, does it really matter whether or not I use platinum or copper in these engines? If I am able to use copper does anyone know the Autolite part# for the plugs? One more quick question, are these motors aluminum headed or iron headed(My Cobra has aluminum heads and the engine needs to be stone cold in order to change them)?
This car does have 171k on it, so a fuel system cleansing could be in order for it. I know the car needed some work when I bought it, but I think it all can be addressed with needed tune-up work. Once I get this misfire taken care of, then I can fix that LED Brake Light!
Thanks for educating a Mustang guy into the Maxima world,
