I was reading the maxima suspesion review site(dont know the name) and it said that sprint springs wear out ur drive shafts because they are so low. WTF is that all about? I have never heaRD of these problems. I had sprints on my 97 and it is fine untill this day with the new owner. Now I have eibach's on my other 4th gen but it dont l@@k low enough for me so I want TEIN. What scares me is that it may wear out the shafts. Has anyone ever had this problem?

And I could not find pictures of TEIN springs on the 4th gen, Can some one post pics. Thank you.

I have Sprints and have replced my passenger's side axle 3 times. The rideheight definitely makes it harder on the CV joints.

I believe it was Iansw that had to replace multiple axles until he realized it was his Sprints causing the problems. He removed the Sprints and runs something like H&Rs and has no problems. IMO, anything over a 1.7" drop and you're asking for problems with axles, ride quality, lack of suspension travel, bottoming out, poor handling, blown shocks, etc, etc, etc.

That would probably be a concidence, not a cause. The angle of the drive axles & related stresses on the CV joints is a function of the driveshaft angle(s), which is a function of the ride height of the suspension, nothing more.

(If you're running a 5-speed w/ a drop below 1.8", don't expect that you're off the hook - also, just because ppl haven't had problems YET, doesn't mean they're not on their way - wear occurs over time, cumulatively, not right away after you drop your suspension).

 

i got sprints too... i have to change out my struts cus they're blown but um... i think i'll check my cv's when i get back stateside...

Not to be a d!ck or anything, I know ppl with 5spd maxima's with drops lower than 2" that have been like that for years and have no problems. And have recently switch to a lower suspension set up via coil overs. I bought my Sprints like almost two years ago, and have not had a problem.

 

If your car is low, it makes the CV joints work harder because they are now at a more severe angle all the time. Regardless if you've had problems or not, the CVs are working harder.

 

It will also depend on the kind of road you drive. I live in AZ and the roads here are pretty good. My daily roads that I used were just rebuilt about 6 months ago so my car feels like stock even with the sprints. Some other people here in AZ have also had their sprints for years with no problems. I think if I go to California my axles will wear out on the first day there

 

Cool - good for you. YMMV, as always. I'm not here to tell people what to do, just discuss the effects of lowering on CV's.

Some ppl have not had CV problems; some clearly have, as a result of lowering. If you fall into the better half, yippee, your wallet's a little fatter than those on the downside. (No sarcasm, I swear). Continued good luck!

Shocks don't affect ride height - springs affect ride height.

 

Automatic here, with sprints, no probs for almost a year now.
