Any suggestions on what a possible remedy would be? More specifically the cheapest remedy?

 

That sucks dude sorry to hear it. Everything I have ever bought for g/f car's has been from jegs. I buy all my aftermarket parts from jegs but then again the x-g/f didn't drive a maxima. Which is why she dumped me. lol Sorry bout not bbeing any help but jegs is good tho.

Headers are expencive man. Unless yer gonna get the crappy ebay ones, expect to pay around 400 for them.

 

Blew her Headers ?? How did she do that ?? How do you know thats what she did to her car ?? Not an easy thing to do

The temp gauge was on H and the car shut off on her fixed everything (water pump, thermostat)but the car kept over heating. Then mechanic told her the heads were blown.

I am not a car expert by any means, but heads and headers are two different things. Headers are the piping that the exhaust is first passed through, its not really possible to "blow" them.

 

Heads, heads, I ment heads not headers.

 

Just get another used motor from ebay car-part.com. Doing the heads will cost a few thousand for parts labor. You can get used motors for $400-$600 and have it installed for less than a grand total.

 

If she blew the head then you've got 1 very expensive job on your hands. I would def take it to another mechanic before you go through with that. I knew a few really good mechanics out in brooklyn. What mechanic told you that she blew the head???

 

I think your mechanic meant the head. Headers dont have any moving parts but the engine head is a different story.

 

The shop is just off of Rogers Ave. heading towards Atlantic Ave. from Eastern Parkway. I think I will go with the new engine I was told that was the least expensive, I posted to get some other opinions.

 

Good thing you cleared that up...headers blown???? Never heard of such a thing. Good luck on fixing her up.

Yeah I got my heads rebuilt and installed last year for 1550 after my tensioner disentegrated and, well I got new heads. Of course thats on my 88 maxima. I dont know how much it'll be for your 96.

I couldve gotten a newer engine with lower miles but I knew my engine was and still is good. Its up to you

 

Blew the heads? You mean head gasket, and possibly cracked heads?
I agree about just doing a motor swap.

 

Either way if you are not capable to do it yourself, get a swap.

 

well a motor swap (parts and labour) would almost cost as much as replacing the head (parts and diagnostics).

You might run risks of other problems coming up if the swap is improperly done. just a heads up.

 

You will have less risks with the swap then with top of the engine rebuild.

i agree with the guys, there could be more problems with the engine you dont know about, or the head issues could have caused more problems. A full swap would guarantee a working engine, and probably you could get a lower mileage engine, etc

LOL F&F. I don't think he fried any piston rings but I'm pretty sure that head needs to get rebuilt, too expensive to do so swap would be the cheapest
