I'm going to to buy a Y-pipe from Budget, so i start calling around to get get some quote on how much it would cost to installi it. One guy i talked to asked me if i had all the gaskets to go with the Y-pipe. Does any one know who has ordered from Budget, Dose it come with Gaskets or do i need to buy them seperate, or do i need them at all.

The budget y-pipe does come with all the necessary gaskets to install. You should have the 2 O rings and the gasket that goes in between the y and the cat.

I don't know that much about cars. But I do know that the easiest way to get it installed is doing it yourself. I installed the y-pipe on a friend's maxima in about an hour and a half. The hardest part is to get off the stock y. If you are interested in installing it yourself and saving about $150, PM i'll be happy to help.

You definitely need the gaskets - just verify with Budget when you order that they are provided - if for any reason they are not, they can be obtained from any Nissan Dealer/supplier pretty cheaply.

Nissan Part No's: (1995-1999 Maxima)

20691-38U00 = S GASKET-EXH MA (you need 2 - these are for the 2 manifold ends of the Y-pipe).

20692-65J00 = GASKET (you need 1 - this is for the flange between the back end of the Y-pipe & the catalytic converter)

Also, one of the guys i talked to said something about the aftermarket y-pipe crystalizing at the joints? Anyone heard of this happening?

Does the Budget Y-pipe come with any replacement nuts & bolts or just the gaskets? I'm also looking to replace the y-pipe and there's a possibility that some bolts might have to be hacked off.

Also, you know how in the front of the car, there's this medal piece where you can put a jack and lift the entire front of the car? Well, is there a safe place in the back of the car which I can safely use my jack to lift the entire back of the car without damaging anything? The back is not as obvious and I can't see to find a safe spot.

Thanks.

If you have a good (>2 ton capacity) floor jack, you can lift right in the middle of the big U-beam axle to get the entire rear off the ground at once.

(Lift the front first if you're trying to get the whole car up on jackstands, otherwise you won't be able to get the jack saddle under the front of the car when the rear is stilted up).

Crystalizing?

I think what he's referring to is that when two different metals are placed in contact with each other, over time, they will corrode at a much faster rate than identical metals. While this is true, I haven't heard of this being a problem with any of the aluminized steel or stainless steel applications typically available for our cars.

(I wouldn't worry about it, unless you plan to own your car for 8-10 more years and live in a 4-season climate)

Thanks for the reply KWheelzSB. I have a 3 ton jack so I can definitly lift it up. I was going to put it on the U-beam but I thought twice about it as I wasn't sure if that's going mess my axle or that sway bar.

No prob - yeah, just make sure the saddle is under one or both edges of the beam and that you're not applying lifting force to the OEM rear sway bar & you'll be fine.

AND PLEEEEEEZE - WHATEVER YOU ALL DO, NEVER EVER GET UNDER A CAR THAT'S ONLY SUPPORTED BY A JACK!!!!! GET JACKSTANDS UNDER IT.

(Don't get squashed like a bug! - we want to hear from you again! )

Oh believe me, I would never just use the jack to support the car. I have 4 3-ton jackstands. I have no problem lifting the front and putting the first two jackstands under (on the support beams that goes all the way back), I just wasn't too sure where to put the jack in the back.

Also, once I have lifted the back via the U-beam, where do you guys put the jackstands? Is it by the door area with two notch in it? The ones that is meant for the oem jack?

Unless I'm doing suspension work that requires the suspension to "hang", I just put the jackstands under the axle L&R.
