Anything to know before buying a 98?

I'm possibly looking to replace my 93 sentra with a 98/99 Maxima. I already have a 2000 which I like a lot. The 5th gens had a few common problems like bad coils (check for knocking), rotors, etc. What about the 98/99s? I would obviously pay a nissan mechanic to give it a once over before making any decision but figured I could save some time up front and keep an eye out for anything in particular BTW it would be a 5 speed.

Also, I'd been under the impression that 95-97 had 190 HP, and the 98 and 99 got a bump to 205, but edmunds is not supporting that in their spec section and merely stating that these cars have a 190 hp/205 torque rating. What is the truth?

The 98 is still at 190 hp.

The 98 Maxima was part of the alternator recall last year. Thats the only problem that I know of that was fixed by the dealer.

Even the 95-99s can have coil issues, but they're still a great buy and very reliable. Oh, and the 95-99s all have the same 190 hp motor.

I thought 95-96's were a little stronger?
