My car wouldn't start even after a new battery.

My car was sitting for a week in the garage, and when I attempted to start it, it just wouldn’t turn over. So I bought a brand new battery, installed it and when I attempted to start it again, it made the same noise and didn’t start. Kind of like a consistent cranking noise, but not like the inconsistent cranking noise the car makes right before it fires up. So, I kept at it for 10 minutes and finally thick smoke and some liquid that smelled like gas came pluming out of the exhaust, and it finally hesitated and started. What the heck is going on with the car? Is there something that I should be looking into to prevent this from happening again? The car drove perfect after that.

Thanks for reading.

It cranked fine and still cranks just well. After the whole thing, it starts up like a charm all the time. I guess that means my starter is good?

If it starts fine now, don't worry about it

My 97 max did the same thing about 2 weeks ago. It finally started and idled rough then it ran fine for a week and a half and now it won't start again.

I got a ses light and pulled the codes for camshaft position sensor, front right heated O2 sensor and knock sensor.

I ordered all the parts and now I am just waiting. Hopefully replacing these parts will solve my problem. If not, I will be pi$$ed and out $250.

Are you getting a ses or cel?

Mine wouldn't start either, and I got cam sensor and knock sensor codes...talked to a nissan mechanic, and he told me to replace cam sensor first since it was the first code to come up, and see if that makes the knock code go away. Sure enough, after replacing the cam sensor, it fired right up and the check engine light shut off--without having to replace the knock sensor. Hope this helps--replacing the cam sensor is an easy fix!
