transmission problems

just purchased my 97 5-speed from a local nissan dealership. On saturday I headed out to the mountain to do some snowboarding. On my way home I noticed when shifting, every gear would redline and then catch. I was taking it easy driving in 5th on cruise control and watching the tach I noticed the needle keep spiking at 5 grand and then it would go back to three. It was a flat road. Then out of the blue, the tack redlined and stayed there. Couldn't engage any other gears. Got out of the car and smelled like burnt clutch. Its midnight my cell is dead and I'm stranded in east bumble f*ck. Then I finally get home and where my car was parked in the driveway, there where all types of spots ( large ones, little ones and all different textures)Great car I purchased.
