URGENT! Hit a curb and bent front right control arm and spindle.
Hey everyone,
One of the many reasons that I hate snow and Wisonsin is driving in the snow. Well the oher day I hit a curb and knew something was up cause it was making a huming noise. So I bring it to a local shop hopping something minor happened like threw off the alignment. Turns out the spindle, lower control arm and bearing are messed. The guy wants $500 for parts and $250 for labor. Used control arm is cheap but he can't find a used spindle. Thats $298 for a new spindle. My questions are; Is this a decent price? Is it possible for me to do myself without airtools or lift(Did spring install myself)?

Bearings need to be pressed out and back into your new spindle. It's not an easy job, leave it to somebody who has the equipment necessary to do it.
Suspension components are much better tackled with air tools and a lift. The nut to get the drive shaft out is on there really really tight. Your not going to crack it loose with hand tools.

How fast were you going when you hit the curb? I had the same problem here in Iowa. I was trying to make a turn in a parking lot and hit a curb at around 5 mph. I took it to the mechanic asking them to check the front axle, but said nothing about a control arm or spindle. They said the axles fine, but are the control arm and spindle separate from the axle?

Only 210lbs of torque. No problem with a long breaker bar.
I've done it at least 5 times on my and other's maxes without any major issues.

Same thing happend to me, i got a used control arm for $50 and the spindle i bought but turned out the original spindle was fine. I think my struts r bent because now the camber still wont be within spec even if u adjust them all the way, so i had to grind some metal off the strut bolt hole....

Well thanks for all the help guys. The guy found a used spindlel. So now its only $380 for parts. 280 plus shipping is almost $350. But i decided to go the easy route and pay up like a sucker. I had to have it done by friday because on monday Max is going in for a sound install that has been schedualed for a month and a half. After that its UDP install. I have to schedual all this stuff at once because the only time i have during the school year is over breaks. So thanks for the offer vsamoylov. Note: I did say originally the bearing was destroyed so you wouldn't have needed to remove it.
