Does anyone hear have a problem when reversing and hearing a clank sound?

Everytime I shift into reverse and tap the gas to get the car moving a bit and then touch the brakes to stop I hear a clunk sound coming from the back end of the car...any ideas as to what it is? anyone else have the problem?

I used to have the same problem on my 95 GXE, and now on my 98 GLE. Looks like it happens when it is wet outside... No idea why/what does that, and would be interesting to know...
Eugene.

I hear occasional clunks as well. Never found any causes though.

I have the same problem, but i think its coming from the front end....I'm guessing it might be that the brake shims need to be replaced

Only when my car is cold. If the car has been sitting for awhile, more than 2-3 hours, I shift it into reverse and "clank". After I drive, park, and go in reverse, no clank. I was thinking/sounds like it is the u-joint.

Count me in guys - I hear it all the time, as well. I guess it is one of those "rattles" that comes with a Maxima. My friend's 97 SE does the same thing and we recently discussed it.

I don't think it is anything bad...sort of like the whistle sound (as if from a turbine on a turbo) coming from the engine bay that 90% of Maxima owners have reported hearing at one time or another - there was a huge thread on it a while back. In the end, I guess it's just all NORMAL.
