5 speed shift ****

Has anyone tried removing the stock shift ****. Is there any tricks other than just unscrewing it. I am about to go mid evil on it and use a pair of pliars and a blow torch.

It takes a ton of force, but it just screws off.

wrap it with a small towell or cloth and then use some channel locks.
or do what i did: channel locks and no towell. I ended up tearing the shift **** nearly in half

No, don't use pliars or anything because you WILL damage the ****, even it it's just tiny scratches, unless of course you don't care about the shift **** being damaged/ruined.
I've done this on 2 5-spd 4th gen Maximas now - actually a friend of mind did...he is very strong and was able to unscrew both ***** using his hands with lots of force

Wow..that's new!!! I dont think anyone has ever attempted to remove the stock shifter!!

lol..just kidding

Try using those adjustable bar clamps that have the rubber ends on them. I put one on mine and turned it counter-clockwise and came right off. Its amazing what you can do with those clamps!

I used a set of vise grips. I tighten it enough to get a good drip on it and I just turned and the ish came off.
