Body shop prices

I've never needed to goto a body shop for painting, but what kind of costs are usually accociated with the 97 - 99 rear end conversion, painted to stock black?

If the body shop costs aren't too insane, I'll be buying a 97 trunk lid (in white, my 96 is black) off an .org member, and I have a 97 bumper, unprimed, sitting in my garage for months now.

A Good paint job costs from 1200 and up, depending what is painted. If you look on my webpage, you can see I got into an accident and went from rosewood to metallic neptune blue. It cost me about 1000 bucks, w/door trims and inner trunk painted, but not the engine bay.

I just need the bumper and trunk lid painted, not the whole car. I saw $1200 and just bugged out

White is a hard color to paint over. Most times it takes more paint to cover and prevent the white from bleeding through even after the sanding and priming process. Even with that I would guess about $300-$500 paint, materials and labor.

I've called a couple places and the cheapest so far is about $500. Is that reasonable?

When it comes to paint jobs you don't wanna pay too much, but at the same time you don't need to be too cheap either. I'd see what the dealer charges(or the body shop they use) and try to use that as a base price to determine how much I wanna pay. Since your not buying Nissan parts, the price shouldn't be too outrageous. Then shop around for a better price that is in the same ballpark as the dealer or even a reputable bodyshop. when the price starts getting outrageously cheaper, the bodyshop is cutting a corner somewhere(as far as quality of paint or clear) and you don't really want that.

With your car I'd reccomend an all over paint job. White is a hard color to colormatch(especially Nissan Pearl White) on a new car, let alone one that is nine years old.(hence why insurance is usually higher on a white, red, or black vehicle) In certain lights you can tell where the new paint stops and the old paint begins. A good bodyshop is going to either A. Paint the kit off the car or B. Paint the kit on the car and blend (front bumpers with fenders, sideskirts with doors and doorjambs, rear bumper with trunk and quarter panels). If they do A the difference would probably be more noticeable because it's new paint on a new part to the car clashing with the old paint on it already. B on the other hand could turn out pretty well because you'd have to know what you're looking at to see it. But they've already painted most of the car so you may as well let them paint the rest.( Nine times out of ten they'll charge like they did anyway)
