Hello, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Mike and i'm from the Chicago area. Although i dont currentley own a Maxima, im seriously looking into getting a 4th gen. (5-spd) in the spring. Right now I own a 1993 Prelude Si. Just curious to know what you guys like and dislike most about your cars, and what to look for when buying a max. Seems like a lot of nice people around here, I look forward to getting to know you all.

HEH....couple things to look for:
Starter
Parking brake lines
Motor mounts
Tranny bearings (turbo like whine)
Knock sensor
O2 Sensors
EVAP controls
Look for any leaks

also, CHECK CEL CODES! (make sure you get a 05 05 code, meaning nothing wrong)

Check into the regional forums (Upper Midwest) often. We hold meets in the spring/summer, so you can talk to the many other Max owners around Chicago, and see their cars.

I work at Jiffy Lube and get to see these cars on a daily basis, very beautiful cars, the dipsticks just suck :-). I never knew they were so quick until I checked this site out. 15.2-15.4 stock, thats practically 300ZX type numbers out of much more stealthy car, i like :-). Ive heard a lot about ignition coils and knock sensors being a major issue. Any idea what percentage of maximas have these issues and at what mileage? Were there any engineering improvements on the 97-99 models to prevent these failures? Thanks for your "warm" welcome...

The only thing I think sucks about our cars, the dark brown dashboard, (why couldn't they think of going all black or light tan too) and sometimes the expensive BS prices for parts on our car. Otherwise maximas are SWEETA$$ cars, a family car that can whoop on some sports cars STOCK! my 2cents

Yeah ignition coils go almost on everycar after a while. Knock sensor goes too sometimes. Some people complain about trannies but that's only for automatics. But the car is damn quick and parts to make it go faster are pretty cheap too.

You will impressed with it, I was so far I killed (all stock, auto, leather and $hit):
99 SI with dc full exhaust headers to mufler, CAI, Skunk 2 matifold and etc
2002 325 BMW auto killed it (pretty sure I can take a stick one too)
intergra ls stick (wonna get a run with a GSR after few upgrades)
and other slow ****s like v6 camaros

Only lost to
1. PT Crusier Turbo (hang on his back door for 3 runs)
2. Other modded max (got smoked)

Welcome. If you don't know too much about maximas then hire a mechanic to check out the car before you buy.

bringing any car your thinking of buying to a mechanic, unless you are one, is a very smart thing to do. also i'd say get a 97. you can't mod the ecu on a 99, 95-96 have the 'other body style' and the 97-99 are much better looking imo....also a 97 will be that much cheaper(then a 98-99) and just as fast as a 98-99. good luck i reccomend a black on black leather 5 speed(Extremly Rare!) or buy an auto and do a 5speed swap($1000)...so pimp soo sexy....i hope you buy a, i love mine....

what have you done to your lude? is it any fast? post a picture or give a link...also if you have altezzas on your car your auto kicked off the message boards j/k

(mine will be painted soon and be that much less ricey!)

The only thing i dont like about our car is the gas milage, but thats what you get with V6, its worth it.
