17" with drop

Does anybody with 17" rims have a pic of their drop? And also.....does anyone know about some device that you can put on ur stock springs to compress them so u can lower ur car (something u screw on)?

Not saying that it doesn't look good, but from my knowledge, I got 18's with a 1.5" drop, and it is not enough. I need to get 19's to fill my wells a little better. The max has BIIIIIGGGGG wells so the 17's will need a good size drop to sit nice. .02, And the part you are looking for is called a spring compressor. Any local shop has them, and you could call a couple places to see if you can rent them. TRUST ME you need them. I did my suspension, with my boy and a case of coors (no compressors), I wouldn't ever do that ish AGAIN. haha. after the case, blowing them springs across the garage didn't seem to reckless tho! opps.

17's with a 1.5" drop will be more than enough. To me, it is ideal. Anything bigger than 17's will not only kill your ride, but will hinder your performance as well.

I agree that it is Ideal, BUT i used to believe everything i heard about bigger wheels hinder performance and all that, but i hardly feel a loss with my 18's on. If im in first and pop the throttle me wheels still break loose. But really its all up to the owner and what he decides.

do they make something like that? that's new to me and i've been into import performance cars since i was 14. i have heard of heating the stock springs to change the ride height but not something you can screw on.

Why don't you just do it the safe way and spend the couple extra and get REAL springs. I don't kno if they sell anything like that but if they do i wouldn't use it. You can get springs fairly cheap.

Yes, they do sell CRAP like that. Its a type of clamp that squeezes the springs together. Ive heard of people using them and having one side pop off during highway driving, not fun nor safe. Im sure if you search JC Whitney you will find them.
If you lower your car, do it right. Buy Lowering springs, not some sort of spring clamp and DO NOT cut your stock springs.
I have to agree with MaximaEvolution on bigger wheels hindering performance. When I have the 16's on my acceleration from a stop is much quicker then when I am on 18's. But the 18's look soooooo much better with a dropped car.

I'm more on the performance side over show. So 16" or 17" wheels would be my preference. Also, a wider wheel or tire would give the illusion that you have less wheel well gap. I enjoy driving around on the stock 15" saw blades, the car is very light-footed and I know I can always launch much faster than others with bigger wheels. But I'll be in the market for 17" light wheels soon.

17's are fine. 18's are the max you should go. More fuel use, tire wear, and other things go into play. It WILL hinder your performance w/anything larger than 18's..or even 17's.

the equipment you are talking about is sold at autoparts stores and goes for about 30 bucks. unfortunately i think they are a waste, as it is difficult to use. Just take them to a local garage and get them put on in 15 mins, opposed to the 5 hours i spent doing them.

those spring clamp things are the most ghetto mod ever! whatever you do do not get them!
when my friend got a '83 sentra (freebe) it had those things on two of the springs. the other 2 had obviously fallen off long ago. all it took to get the other 2 off was a smack with a hammer and they went flying.. and i mean flying!
we had some fun with that car until the engine siezed from driving fo a week without oil. i really miss that car, it was so much fun for romping! sorry

Get 18's, and it doesnt matter if you have 17,18, or 19's they all have the general same diameter if you got the right size of tire, so filling the wells, is up to gtting the right size tire.

Go to my homepage for pics of 17s with maxspeed springs drop. I wish i went 18s instead of 17s but my drop is alittle less than 1.5. I wouldn't drop more if you drive in the winter like me, but i think 2" drop looks the best on a maxima.

Here is my ride with H&R's and AGX's. The drop is 1.4" in the front 1.3" in the back. Rims are 17x8 and tires are 235/45/17.

Thanks man. Problems with CV joints? Hell yes. Had to replace my driver's side axle, because the boot stretched too much, cracked, and leaked. That's the price you pay of a low ride. That's also another reason I'm switching to Tein H-Techs.
