Cleaning the headliner...What is out there?

This is driving me nuts. My headliner is pretty dirty and I am afraid to use anything. I tried this "test" spot on it and I used this carpet cleaner...it left a water mark looking spot. Any recommendations? I thought about using the rug doctor thing but I think it may be too harsh.

You cant just clean one spot on the headliner. Whatever you use, it will work but you need to do the WHOLE headliner...unfortunatly its easier if you take it out.

I know that I have to clean the entire headliner. What I was saying is that when I did a test spot, it left this water mark look on it.

I wouldn't even bother cleaning it. Theres always a chance that whatever your using may dissolve the glue that holds the fabric and its prolly gunna end up saggin....I've seen it happen more then 10 times to 10 different people. If its really that dirty, you should reline the entire headliner with new fabric. Joann Fabrics carrys special headliner material with the padding for about $10/yard

Nono...i dont think you understood what i meant. If you do the whole headliner at once it will NOT leave any waterspots...just make sure you do an even coat and get the whole thing moist.

I have this same problem. Except mine is moldy from a leaky sunroof. First step is fixing the sunroof then replacing my liner. How many yards of fabric are we talking, 4-5? Could someone give a link to Joann Fabrics. While we're at it, how do you remove the d@mn thing. Doesn't look like it would fit through the door without folding it or something? What clips/screws are there? Does Joann Fabrics match perfectly.
