question about oil leak

I have an oil leak and took it to an auto shop. They told me that the oil leak was from the joint between the oil pan and the engine block. They also said that it would cost aobut $370 to fix cos i'll need to change my oil and get two gaskets that would be replaced when they work on it. I don't think they know what they are talking about cos they've screwed me over once into thinking that something was wrong with my whip and when i got the part they told me that it was something else. Can anyone confirm that it takes that much money to fix a problem like that and if that is the problem what parts do i need?
Any inputs would be appreciated. Thanks

If they screwed you over once, why did you go back there? There is more than one shop in your area.
It's quite a bit of labor to remove the oil pan.

i had the same problem after i bottomed out the car which warped the oil pan so that it leaked around the edges. the shop wanted to charge me about as much to replace it but i told them that there was no way i was going to pay that much for another crappy pan that i would end up breaking again... so they just took the thing off and used silicone or something... (i dont know for sure) to seal it around the edges... they screwed up the 1st time but did it again for free anf its been fine for about 8 months.

Did you verify that this is where the leak is coming from? Clean it up with a degreaser and take a flashlight under there to look. If it is the upper oil pan, that seems pretty close to fair IMO. I looked into tapping the upper oil pan myself when I did my turbo and decided against. Kev and some others did it but they said it def. wasn't easy.

You're crazy if you don't go get a 2nd opinion if you're not gonna do the work yourself though.

1. verify the where the leak located.
2. get nessesary parts
3. pull out tools and do it yourself! screw the shops. they charge an arm and a leg for repairs, and they try to suck the cash rigth out your wallet. trust me. speaking form exprience(only i had no chance but to sen dmy whip to the shop)

if you need to, get a chilton maual to the maxim and you'll find everything you need to know in there and how ot take things apart in your car!
