can you swap a 5 speed from a different car

i have a 97 auto se and i need to do the conversion but i don't have access to a manual where i live and i have access to cheaper ones with the same gear ratio so is it possible

Are you talking about from like a Acura (just an example) If you can't get your hands on a Maxima tranny, then you could try an Inifiniti i30 I believe years 96-99 ..

right i'm talking about like a whole different car like a mustang or any tranny with asimilar gear ratio

Btw, Mustang's are RWD...completely different kind of tranny to begin with

Nissan Altima's trannies are actually the EXACT same part number from 1992-1997 as the 4th Gen Maxima's tranny.

But noone's tried it yet. Why don't you.

There's something different between them like the size of a shaft or main axle or something. I looked at doing that last year and something just didn't match up.
