Why is 99 SE the slowest of 4th Generation?
I own a 1999 Maxima SE Limited 5 speed and I read in another post here that the 1999 was the slowest of all 4 years of the 4th generation. I assume there must be an exaust difference of some kind. It must be more restricting than the other yrs. I would appreciate some feedback on this and if I do the regular mods like most everyone else will my 1999 be up to par with the (96-98)?

99s have a different front exhaust manifold setup. The pre-catalytic converter for the front cylinders is *right* under the exhaust manifold, whereas for earlier years it's underneath the engine farther away from the cylinders. Having an exhaust restriction (the pre-cat) that close to the engine lowers flow. Nissan did this to get the pre-cat hotter sooner to help reduce cold start emissions, but there's obviously a down side to this (lower power). Nissan never claimed an official reduction in HP, but I think it's generally agreed the power loss is there. Maybe 5 HP less, something like that.
You can easily make up for the slight power loss with mods like a Stillen intake, y-pipe, etc.

Slower 99 SE-Limited
ezemax99se, i was told that our 99 maxima's weigh more then the others. More insulation for sound dampening.. As well as the previous reason. A CAI and Y-Pipe should balance any difference and then some..
Help me out would you, Ask your dealer to get the production numbers on the color ( Crimson Blaze) i have had NO LUCK getting the production numbers on our color.... Maby we could get the other RED maxima owners involved and Nissan will research it...
Peace,

LOL, I'll add them too the list...Just kidding..
What i really need is the actual production built numbers..
Like if i had a 63 vette with a 4 speed in black. I could get the exact number of cars produced just like mine...
Ford, Chevy, BWM, AUDI,++++ Alot of them keep those records, so why oh why does nissan have to keep it a secret????
