Incorrect Odometer Reading

I've been driving in my '97 SE wityh 104K for a few months now and getting different readings for my daily commute to work. When I first got the car 5 years ago, I would drive to work and the daily commute would read 59 miles per day/ 295 per week. The past few months my daily commute would read 55 miles daily and 275 per week. I've even factored in miscellaneous miles for driving to lunch or taking alternate routes, but it still doesn't add up to my customary commute in the past.

Anybody else experiencing this? I wouldn't call this a problem, but it certainly isn't helping me figure out my mpg when i want to.

Try driving a measured distance and see what it reads.

Do you have non-stock-size tires?

If it is sticking, you can open up the cluster and blow out the machanism with some light compressed air. That may help.

I've always had stock rims and haven't changed tire brands. I don't think the odometer is sticking because it's pretty consistent.

I borrowed my father's car the other week (my brother needed mine), and the odometer read 59 miles roundtrip for 3 straight days. I've since tried the exact route this week and the odometer reads 55 everyday. Weird.
