Weight Savings

Hey, just wondering if we could gather up a list of weight savings items we could do with the Maxima. I'm wondering the exact amount of weight that can be saved with a B-pipe, so if anybody has weights, just keep adding to the list and maybe it could get stickied. Here I'll start this off:

1) Stock Y-pipe: 20lbs / Budget Y-pipe: 10lbs SAVINGS: -10lbs

there was a site that listed all the stuff you could take off and exactly how much it would take off. it had a lot of detailed info and had it laid out in 3 stages, depending on how important the part was... it even had the little handles above the door listed there. LOL
anyone have the link?

Hey Bruce what's up? You still have one of the best intake designs IMO - in fact I'll probably be copying it this spring. Do you have a larger picture of your Cardomain #50 image you could send me? Thanks, Brian

Great site, i knew i saw that site before, way back when i didn't care that much about weight. I weighed the Budget Y-pipe and stock and the stocker turned out being 20lbs while the budget was 10lbs, but according to your site it's 15lbs.

ok....there are plenty of different y pipes which all weigh different amounts. http://lighter.maxdes.net/ does not specify what y pipe.

another thing:
Swap stock seat for ultra light racing seat (32lbs each/64lbs total)
ok so you save 64 lbs...but then you have to add in 2 aftermarket seats and how much do they weigh? they are all different. so ya you save 64 but then your probably adding 15-30 lbs with your new seats...

Swap out steering wheel for aftermarket (3lbs)* again which aftermarket? if you do this then you are automatically removing the stock airbag so...ya...i'm just making a point that these #s are very ruff and more detail is needed. also i'm amazed that when they weighed everything they were even #s. not 2.75LBS. rounding up or down really effects the total.

just as an idea, Know how jockey's for horses are super light and tiny...find a 90lb girl/guy who shifts like a mad man. there is a weight saving of 100lbs or so.

just my input feel free to flame.

ps: i really like the idea of the website i just wish there was alot more detail and exact #s and not guesstimates.

That is a great site but there is more. My Y-pipe was 9.2Ibs. Splashgaurd under engine bay was 3.9Ibs. And now that there is a CF Trunk lid thats about 20Ibs savings. Also, ultralight batteries are only about 9Ibs. I am amazed that GC are so light, wow. That really makes me wanna get 'em.

Now, going in the opposite direction it is interesting to see how much weight your really saving when you account for factory options or mods like foglights, system, keyless entry, ect.

Torgus: Just so you know a lot of things we rounded for a few reasons, one is to account for the different weights of replacement parts, and also a lot of stuff weighed like 2.94lbs so I would just round up. Its not accurate, just mearly a number to judge by. If you want actual weight savings for your vehicle I sugest you weight all your parts individualy and go from their. I have a lot of stuff removed do at this point I dont really worry about it too much I just take it off cause I dont need it. Like that speaker/rear deck cover. No need for one so I got rid of it. I have no I dea how much it weighs but I bet its not much more than 1lb or so. But thats just my 2cent's. If anyone has any other questions let me know.

Hey Bejay1: thanks its not too bad, Ill send it to you in a couple of days when I get home to my computer and I will send you a few pics.

Everyone: Clearly there are a lot of new parts such as fiberglass fenders, carbon fiber truck lids and other stuff I havent even looked at but I just blew my engine and I am going to be rebuilding the car for track racing while keeping it street legal. So you will get the updates as it goes along. And I will include total weight savings for those interested.

Thanks
Bruce
