Chipped Windshield...Repair?

I have a small chip in my windshield from a piece of gravel. Do I need to repair it ASAP, or should it be OK?

depends, if its a spider or batwing crack then it can spread especially when it gets heated and cooled it will spread.

It is just a chip. Does that mean I don't have to bother getting it repaired?

It is up to you. If the chip is bad enough, repair it...usually if the chip or crack is smaller than a quarter, they will fix it.

Hey man, your insurance should cover a windshield replacement.....check out your policy if you aren't sure. Glass is covered under my policy with no deductible.....I assume yours is the same way. .....and dont let them replace it with some POS aftermarket glass, make sure they use an oem windshield.

The chip is about a 1/3 of the size of a pencil eraser and half as deep as the winshield is thick. I don't have full coverage, so insurance won't cover it, but from what you guys have said (quarter sized, etc.) I think I'm just going to let it go.

If insurance wont cover it dont bother until it runs... In NY I believe its the law for insurance to pay for new windshield regardless of coverage. Check what local laws are. Some insurance wont replace it but will repair it for free, chips can be repaired cracks not really.
