Help mne identify engine component

What in the world is this piece that's circled? I apologize for not having a better picture of it, but it's small (smaller than your palm) and round. It's clicking when I turn the key (before starting the car). Is this the notorious knock sensor? I've seen lots of talk about the knock sensor over the years, but never saw one.

Anyone?

no that's not the knock sensor, i can't remember off hand what it's called but it's labeled in the chilton's & haynes manuals. if i find it, i'll tell you, i'm sure someone will beat me to the punch though.

after all the talk of how tough it can be to reach the knock sensor without the right tools, would you think it's out there in the open and so easily accessible?

Hmm thats weird. I dont have that on my engine. I dont see it in my Haynes manual either. Could it be an aftermarket part?

LOL. I don't remember all the conversations, I haven't even been on the board for months. All I know is that I probably need a knock sensor too - have had lost power for months now ... was hoping one part would solve two issues.

It's a part of the evaporative emissions control system. I don't know exactly what it's called though. My 95 doesnt have one. They are only on 96 and later cars.

Hmmmm, doesn't seem like something that should be clicking. I'm going to have to double check that it is what is actually clicking.

Okay, thanks.

Now that it is identified, would/could this actually be what's clicking? It sure sounded like it when isolated with a paper towel roll. Perhaps I'm mistaking the clicking for coming from it when actually it's coming from something underneath it?

IIRC the IACV clicks when the car is turned on and off. Its the triangle shaped thing that's located just below the EVAP valve.

For the 99 guy that didn't think he had a EVAP valve...you do...its like a small blue box that's in the same location on our cars. Same function, different look.
