It was a piece of cake.... the hardest part was separating the MAF from the throttle body (I thought I was going to rip the engine out of the bay!). Stillen's instructions are excellent and it took me 20 minutes from start to finish. I love this mod for 1 reason and 1 reason alone: if you drive the car gently, you'd never know it's there. It only starts to growl as the revs climb past 4K, and when you really stomp on the gas it will growl loud enough to scare you! I can't tell how much performance gain there will be as my test loop last night was in rush-hour traffic.

congrats, you should take the car out for a spin after midnight or so when the traffic is clear. i had a jwt popcharger and it sounded great when you were doing 90 in 4gr or whatever high rpm. it works and you will feel the power gains because i know i did.

I really agree with you on the intake. It's excellent. And yes, you should have a performance gain. After I got mine put on I pulled out of the shop (where there convieniently happens to be an immediate straightaway) and floored it all the way through 3rd gear. It was so much faster that I was cracking up out loud to myself. It was even quicker than I thought it would be. The only thing I dont get is, you only hear it after 4000RPM? If you stomp the gas in mine you'll hear it start to growl as low as 2K. The other thing I love about it is how it gets really, really, really loud after 6000.

I doubt it'll ever get wet

the filter is so high up in the engine bay that you'd have to drive it into the ocean to get it wet. It's also shielded underneath by the fenderwell where the stock airbox tray used to live. Perhaps you have it confused with the CAI? I didn't want to go the CAI route as it would be difficult to uninstall when I sell the car.

BlackMax62, I wouldn't worry about that. The intake sits fairly high up; also there was a period of 2 weeks of heavy rain here, and I drove around alot, and no problems.

You removed your MAF unit? When I installed my JWT POP charger (same as the Stillen), I just removed the stock airbox. Didn't have to touch the MAF or throttle body (which is located after the MAF). For me, the metal velocity stack goes around the opening of the MAF and the filter goes on top of that.

looking back at my install, i would imagine that it probably would have been easier to remove the maf, then bolt on the pop charger(jwt), then connect up maf again

just think about it, bolting it onto a removed maf or bolting it onto a still connected maf inside the engine bay. ...i dunno about everyone else, but the lower right hand bolt was a biznitch to get to

You could get a JWT for ~80 bux, and a stillen for maybe 20-30 more, not much diifference between the 2, jus that the Stillen uses a name brand K&N filter.

What does the Stillen bracket look like? I don't see how it could work any better than the JWT bracket.

Stillen price

I got mine on Ebay for $113.90. It was new in box. They're few and far between on there, though.

I am a new 97 SE owner. I love the car! I'm looking for an air intake system (not CAI). I looked in Stillen & they are asking for $200. Any suggestions?

i actually took mine off because i felt it ROBBED hp from me... i put the stock box back on and a k&n filter in and all the torque is back and i actually like it better.

youre right... when im going low speeds ill press the gas and it barely does much, then after a certain point the rpms jump and you move but i dont like that too much, i dont want to be revving high all the time just to get it to move... im also thinking about gettin rid of it... its like youre losing horse instead of gaining.. i dunno

Actually, they BOTH use K&N filters......the old difference is the mounting bracket on the stillen connects to 2 bolts where as the mounting bracket on the JWT only connects to one.

im still tryin to figure out if i want to keep it.. ill probably keep it in but i wanna see how it rides cause i was surprised that it was actually slowing me down at lower speeds.. ill give it a few weeks and see what i think.. if i was racing, i would have the extra hp because youre pushing high rpms but for normal driving it feels more sluggish...
