Second pre-cat in Y-Pipe

Second pre-cat in Y-Pipe

So basically the only way to get rid of the second pre-cat in the 99 maxima's is to get the header system?? i'm probably wrong. has anyone figured out how to get rid of the second pre-cat when installing the y-pipe?

I think it is in the pipe. I mean, when you replace the stockie with the after market y-pipe, you get rid of all the pre cats.

so whats up with the 99's not getting as much gains as any of the other years?

I have a '99 and the gains from every mod I have added has provided plenty of noticeable difference.

I have not heard of any difference in gains on the 99's. They are just a little trickier because of the cali and fed spec thing.

I could see a cali-spec '99 not really responding well to mods.

i got a fed spec. does that mean i dont have to worry about getting no gains?

I think more importantly you have a 5spd. Not only will you see gains but you'll be faster than any auto with the exact same mods.

Incorrect. On the 99 Cali spec cars, you can't get rid of one of the pre-cats as the thread author elluded to. They are referred to as 99.5 cars generally - they have a 5th gen style exhaust, ecu, chip in the key, etc. They also have an extra pre-cat and o2 sensor.

I believe the thread author is correct, at this time the only way to remove that extra pre-cat would be with headers, and even then the headers would have to have the correct hole for the o2 sensor. I could be wrong tho, I remember Budget and some other people working on ways around it. Perhaps they figured it out.

well isn't the cats on all the other cars all on the y pipe...like all 3 of them....on after each header and one after the pipes come together.......right??? and what's the difference in cali spec and fed spec?

Actually, all SE-L's are considered 1999.5. This is because they were a late model year production...only half of the year they were made. They don't have a 5th gen style exhaust, but I think the ecu is like the 5th gen. They do have a chip in the key (which sucks, because they cost like $65.). However, there are fed and cali spec cars in 99.5. I am not sure about the cali spec, but the fed spec have the same o2 sensors as other maxs and I don't think they have an extra pre cat either.

I believe some folks have used a regular 4th gen y-pipe. They just made an extra 02 sensor bung.
