Aftermarket Suspension

I'm pretty new when it comes to the suspension on these cars. Have a couple questions:

1) General entry level suspension. What spring/strut combo would everyone suggest? I'm looking for a little bit lower. NOT bouncy. Don't care if it's a little stiff. Basically looking for a good street performer. I'm not going to be auto crossing or taking this car to a road coarse so I don't care about absolute performance.

2) Camber kits. Do these cars require them or can we just get away with a 4 wheel alignment?

*EDIT* I forgot to mention that this car WILL see winters. So I don't want it slammed 3 inches because it's going to need to get through a little bit of snow.

Thanks.

try eibach(1.5f/1.3r) or h&r(1.4f/1.3r) springs on tokico illumina or kyb agx struts they're adjustable so you can set the level of responce

Yea I was just looking at the illumina kit on custom maxima. Seems like a pretty good deal and they reviewed it on here and they liked it. The eibachs always seem to be a little generous on their lowering estimates. Everyone seems to complain that it didn't go low enough with them.

How much do you want to lower your car? I'm going with the H&Rs because they give about an inch and a half drop which is enough for me but still have good ride quality. You should get a camber kit, probably from eibach, because the front tires will wear faster after the lowering springs. The rear has a solid axle so no need for camber adjustment there, plus no one makes bolts for the rear anyway. Good choice on those illumina's, im sure you'll be satisfied. After they're installed, dont forget that RSB

Yea I know the purpose of camber kits, I just wasnt sure if maximas needed them. VW's for example, only need wheel alignments no matter how low you go. I was curious as to whether or not Maximas were the same. Thanks.

You dont need camber correction with Eibach or H&R springs. That drop isn't enough to put camber out of spec. Just make sure you get your front alignment (toe) set after you install your suspension.

Are you sure njmaxseltd ? a 1.5 inch drop wouldnt change the camber enough to require camber bolts? no uneven wear? just needs a front alignment?

Doing things on a "budget" is the fastest way to end up spending even more money to replace parts that don't live up to expectations. That being said, sometimes the most expensive routes are also sub-standard in terms of performance and quality.

Your best bet is to educate yourself first before going out and buying a bunch of mods you might end up not liking.

When companies advertise products with "good ride quality", remember that it is all totally subjective in description. Anything short of quantifiable data is meaningless with mod-shopping.

Sorry for stealing this thread but no point making a new one since it's on the subject..

I too am looking for a street setup, but I want some control over the amount of drop, so I'm going coilovers..Just wondering a setup of Ground Control Coilovers with the Tokico Illuminas be a good "street" setup? I'm looking for a comprimise between handling and ride quality

ground control recommends koni yellow struts.... agx only cover 1.5 inch drop.. so you cant use that warranty..

street performance- eibach/ agx, illum, koni.

street looks - sprints/agx, illum, koni.

ebay front strut..35 bucks

rear sway bar. 100 bucks..

since ur gonna see some snow, I'd say go with H&Rs because it has a soft spring rate, but if you're on a budget, then go with maxspeeds. I have maxspeeds and u can see the drop on my site. I'm running on stock shocks which is harsh at first compared to stock, but it's not unbearable once you get used to it. But still, i'm not suggesting u go and leave the stock shocks. Get some aftermarket like AGX or Illumina. I was considering GR-2s but some people say that it may blow and i didn't wanna take chances. So i went ahead and got illuminas and i'm gonna install Tein S. Tech springs because the 1.5 in just doesn't cut it for me.

I have Sprints with KYB GR-2's and I love em. I've had them for over a year now with no problems.

Well when I say I'm on a budget I don't feel like spending a grand on suspension. H&Rs and AGX's are WELL within the price range.

then go for that. I don't think you'll regret that setup. It's nice.
