new y-pipe rattles...why?

Hey,
I just put on my warpspeed y-pipe the other day. for some odd reason, right around 3000 RPM it rattles. What's this from? Tapping a heat shield, bolts a lil' loose, just getting into place well? The shop that installed it is taking a look on it tomorrow, but im just hoping to be able to go in and have an idea.
Thanks!
Mike

yeah it's probably the heat shield. that's what most people say caused it for them. mine never had that problem but it just fell off the other day anyways cuz of awesome new england weather.

i had the same prob w/ my warpspeed and i took it to a muffler shop and they couldnt find anything wrong. After being really frustrated i finally figured out that it was the connection of the y-pipe to the cat. for some reason warpspeed made the flange on the end of the pipe loose and not welded to the pipe and it makes it very hard to get the gasket in between all of the metal of the cat and pipe. have them take the bolts out and re position the gasket and tighten those bolts as much as u can. At least thats what fixed my rattle, hope this helps.

Mine rattles on startup, when it's cold. It sounds like it could be the heat shield. Don't know really, it only does it once and then you never hear it again.

If you didn't have heatshielding it wouldn't be rattling. Seriously though, I've had mine shielding off for 4K miles with zero problems. The exhaust corridor is never hot inside the car.

I'm glad this came up I'm having the same problem. I just installed mine last weekend. I'll be getting back under the car this weekend to see if I can pinpoint the problem.

By heat shield, do you mean the shield that covers the cat right after the end of the y pipe? If so that seems to be more of a rock shield than heat shield. That CAT gets hot as hell, and all that shield does is keep the heat inside, and that shield is metal so you can believe it when I say that if the CAT is hot, that shield is gonna be hot as well too. I believe its just there to prevent scraping or rocks from messing up the cat. But then again, I could be wrong. On a slightly different note, I put my Ypipe on Saturday, and I'm hearing a rattling/vibrating sound from right under my shifter area. Some say its the flex section and how its breaking in, I'm not sure about that thouh. I'll see if its the shield, and whether or not I want it off or on. If tat doesnt work, then Imma try tightening the end of the y pipe and the flange.

Oh yeah one more thing, the rattling/vibrating sound isnt constant, its not always at a certain RPMs, it comes and goes, but its there and I hear it. =P

Let the car sit up on a lift for 6 hours, soaked everything w/ WD40 about every hour or so, and then used all my strength to get the nuts off...and it was done.
