new small interior mod...

the pics didn't want to come out too great for some reason so i'll post all 3. i'll get better and more clear ones when i get the chance. the pics don't really do it justice as always.

i got the emblem for FREE from a nice altimas.net member who was parting out his car. i used clear mounting tape to put it on. i know many cars come with these on stock, but the 4th gens unfortunately didn't and well, it was free. it matches my i30 chrome door handles and my razo shift ****. it'll also match the gauge rings i'll be getting in the near future.

i didn't want to use the regular size nissan burger that comes on the back of our car's stock, that's why i chose the smaller 1st gen altima grill one. i considered putting one on the ashtray, but chose steering wheel instead. nothing too flashy, but i like it so far.

what do you guys think?

If you get into an accident, will you get a burger tatooed on your forehead? ;-)

Looks good, I'm planning a similar move. Nice inginuity in finding a smaller version of the burger.

I think it's nice and unique, but I would hate to be you if, or when the airbag discharges in an accident( )( ). That might hurt, but for now, its nice.

i'm not worried about the small unsharp piece of plastic hitting me. i'm more worried about broken glass or the airbag itself hitting me in a crash.

Yea, and the letters in "Nissan" would be backward!

Maybe the question should be: Hamburger on forehead, or "Maxima" or both? And do we shave the nose too? Or just use a little touch up paint?

but if so, you guys have got to be kidding me. isn't the airbag cover attached on one side so the cover flaps down when the airbag deploys? i don't think it just flies straight at your face...

Have you guys actually seen how an airbag from a steering wheel deploys? The burger wouldnt come close to hitting his head.

Take a look at this pic from my totalled '95 PGT

imstockbaby, what'd you use to mount it? apparently you didn't use the write thing huh? so did you just leave it off? and when you say the same thing, did you use the same size emblem or a larger one?

Very nice mod Jeff...I was gonna do the same thing with the hamburger from my trunk, but then i realized that the hamburger was about the same size as the wheel. And if u're worried about it falling off when the airbag deplys, just think about how people with TVs in their steering wheels feel

very nice.

about the concern with the glass. all glass used in cars (after around 1970 or so) is coated with some material and when it breaks it keeps it's structure to a certain extent and it when it actually does break it dosent break into sharp shards, it ends up with smooth edges..

I don't like it. But if we all liked the same things, then all our Maxes would look identical, so

thanks for the compliments guys!

i know what you mean with the glass...when my car was broken into, the window was shattered inward. the tint actually held most of it together, but i still find random pieces every now n then. some of them were suprisingly sharp believe or not.

i was just using that as an example up there to show them how dumb it is to be afraid of the emblem causing any more damage then other factors involved in a crash. thanks for the input though

thanks for the honesty. honestly though, those pics make my ugly brown skinny steering wheel look worse than it does. the emblem actually goes quite well with the rest of the interior, ie the things i mentioned up above. it looks odd up close like that, i'll post pics later if anyone cares from farther away to give a different perspective on it.

and if eventually i decide i really don't like it, i'll take it off and remember that i didn't spend a dime.

i wish our cars came stock with one that sat flush with the wheel and looked good from the factory. atleast nissan incorporated it in later years.

i need to shut it

The cheapest and most creative mods are the best ones.

Yep, IMO the 97-99 SE steering wheel is perfect. Has a raised nissan logo in the plastic and the shape of the wheel is just right. Much sportier and less clunky looking.

i like 97-99's wheel, but still wish they did it in chrome like a real emblem. like the 5 gens did...

this is bigdo26's...he was the first 5th gen who had a cardomain i could quickly find...hope he doesn't mind:

not the best pic but shows what i'm talking about...

I painted the existing burger on my steering wheel with a silver paint marker. It would look much cooler except i have no patience or artistic ability so i ****ed up a little. one of these days i'm gonna try to fix it.

Yea man I was just being sarcastic, sorry for any wrong communication. My bad.

But yea, I might try it with the emblem off my trunk, but i think it may look too big. Does anyone know what glue to use? Will basic Krazy Glue suffice?

Speaking of the better looking 5th gen wheel, would that work on a 4th?

Yeah, I do like the SE wheel better than the wheel in my 98 GLE. It's not that much different but enough to make the SE 'sportier'. Oh well, no big deal.

no dude, i wasn't being sarcastic. everyone was saying how it will hit your face, i disagreed, and you backed up my opinion. we were in agreement.

i don't think it's ricey because there is a small burger imprinted there anyways and nissan later moved to actually putting an emblem there. many other car makers do this too, so i don't see anything tacky about putting a small one there. i realized today it does look much better when looking from far away so maybe i'll post another pic to show a different perspective.

btw image, what are you laughin about??

The emblem will not hit you in the face. The airbags are designed to reach you before you reach the steering wheel. You should have nothing to worry about. It was a joke. Hence the ;-) after the comment.

i very rarely beep at people, but it doesn't come off from me hitting it. it's stuck on there pretty good.

side note - since i've gotten so many pm's asking me about my gauges:

they are stock SE gauges i swapped in and left my white GXE needles; the led's are 194 wedge bulbs i bought from www.superbrightleds.com . good site, good prices, good bulbs. that's basically it, they look really good in person. if i could start over again, i never would have wasted my time with crap indiglo gauges that only brought problems and would have directly went to SE gauges, or even left my GXE gauges and just changed them to blue leds. i'm very happy with my current and final setup.

I bought some blue LED's about 4 months ago. Waiting to install. Im lazy. Spent $75 bucks ona GD. Also, whoever asked me what i was laughing at... I was laighing at the idea about the burger smashing into your forehead.
