Need help! Gone through 2 y-pipes in 8 months
I don't know if it's just me or not but i keep bottoming out on the flex section of my y-pipe causing it to leak. I'm only lowered 2" on Sprints and i didn't forsee it to be such a problem. I was wondering if anyone else is having the same problems i am with this. The first pipe I had was a Budget and it didnt really surprise me that i bottomed out on it since it hangs low. The current one is a WSP which is basically flush with the chassis so i didnt really expect it to bottom out like the Budget. I don't remember there being sheilding over the flex section on the stock pipe but I could be wrong.
I probably won't replace it until I go home for summer due to lack of equipment, but I need to figure out a way to prevent it from happening another time. Any suggestions are welcome. A before/after install pic of a y-pipe might help too so I can make sure mine's at the right height. Thanks.

I have stock cat, b-pipe, muffler. Whenever I do bottom out it feels/sounds like its in the cat/y-pipe vincinity.
I broke the Budget in OC, NJ on a manhole cover that was raised up just enough to clear my bumper but take out the pipe since it hung low.
The WSP was on a raised lip leaving a parking lot at Auburn last night. I took it at an angle and everything but it ended up being too high.

Your y pipe should be flush with the bottom of car is it? If not buy a cattman y- pipe its SS and stillens flex section rotts way too quick for its price. How do you bottom out? Your tires will be stop by the wheel well. You can tell if your y pipe leaks due to decrease in gas mileage, power loss, and it will sound like a ****ed up V-TEC. Simply jack it up and inspect it, feel for air leaks.
zuluracing: The WSP pipe is nearly perfectly flush with the bottom, but it's still one of the initial low points on the car. I know its the y-pipe leaking because it's the exact same thing that happened with the Budget and when I replaced it, the noise was gone. And the fact that it sounds like a truck exhaust coming from underneath my seat.

im on my second one from warpspeed in 6 months, i dont know what it is, i think it may be the y-pipes, the thing is this seems to be a common problem but the guy made me feel like it has never happend before and it was my fault. I think its the y-pipes, just to be safe i rigged up 2 extra hangers between the flex and the cat to minimise movement.

and the worse thing is ,good thing i didnt wrap it, because the inside of my flex looked like a chea pet and it must have ben holdin me back lots of hp.
how are your engine mounts? struts?
if you've got bad engine mounts, it can cause the y pipe to hang down lower than it should-- because the whole engine is lower.
if you've got bad struts, you could be bottoming out the suspension more than you should- but it doesn't sound like that's the case..
sounds to me like you need to be more careful when driving so that you don't drive over stuff like that. go around...
my car is WAY lower than yours (lowered about 3.5").. I can barely roll a soda can under my car, and I hardly ever bottom it out, even in downtown Houston.
