hey i had the same problem not too long ago. i did two things to fix it. one was replacing the knock sensor. the second thing was cleaning out my fuel injectors. it worked for me so see if that works.

could be..

hey. i had that problem. sorta. do you hear like a winding noise after the car gets started? if you do. you prolly need a starter. i had to change mines out. one day it jus didnt wanna start no more. check all the electrical stuff. like you battery and all that. if you been using high octane gas like 93 or so.. then the injectors shouldnt be dirty. if your throllt is sticky.. youll feel it in the pedal. for now.. i think it may just be your starter. but check everything jus to be sure.

Judging that you live in Canada I'm guessing it's been cold weather for the last few months. Has it been EXTREMLEY cold the last few days? I live in Buffalo NY and sometimes when it's very cold (less than 30F...0C in you case) the car doesnt start very well and it idles very very rough at first, rpm's go from 500 down to 200 and it feels like it is going to stall, even though its automatic. I give it some gas and then it all smooths out. So it may be just due to the cold if it has been cold out.

ya'll have got some good points, but i know exactly what he's talkin bout. it's not the alternator, you're right, cuz i did the same thing and got it replaced with a good one for free cuz the recall. and yeah, it only happens when it's cold outside. if it's like 90 degrees, there's no problem in starting. it only happens when it sits out for a while, maybe even a night and it's cold the next day. that's not the starter cuz if it was the starter, the engine might not even turn, but from what i've read, that's not the case. and as for the 93+ octane, the fuel injectors still get clogged, cuz that's all i use. and mine were runnin at 10% of their capacity, according to two different dealerships. so just try and replace the knock sensor and put some fuel injector cleaner, better results when two bottles are put in, into the fuel tank. if you do these things, the problems should go away. hope this helps.

yes u definetly know what i am talking about because thats what happen
when its cold and its sittting the whole night outside.. and i dont know why but i feel like my car is slow so i think its the knock sensor and i will put some fuel injector cleaner as well but i wanted to know does the fuel injector cleaner do any harm to da car cuz i heard all the aftermarket product too make ur car better end up screwing the car.

hmm

about the starter. your starter will still work. it sometimes will and sometimes wont. when you start hearing a strange winding noise once the car is started.. and it only happens on cold days.. the starter is goin bad. i didnt change mine for about 3 or so months before it didnt wanna turn anymore. i thought it was the battery.. i tested it.. it passed... the starter will go bad.. and wont work well in cold weather.. itll lock up.. then youre SOL. get your starter checked out. cold morning start ups and winding noise from the engine once the car is started is definitely the starter.

you can use fuel injector cleaner liks STP or OUTLAW. all the same. dump it in the tank and let it do its thing.

your fuel injectors are electronic controlled. that means that when you take them out.. they are CLOSED. you want them OPEN to clean it. if your cleanin jus the gunk that collects on it.. then thas all your cleanin. its a pain to take it out and do it.. you gotta connect all this **** like a pressurized can to open it up and blow cleaning solvent in there. not worth it. dump in tjhe injector cleaner..and youll be alright.

if you continue to hear the winding noise when you start the car.. change the starter. the noise will go away. then you shouldnt have a problem starting.

its a pain to be a mechanic.

Hey djbrown,
I just posted a thread with an identical question. And stumbled upon yours later. Same issue, If the car sits long or in the morning I give it gas for a couple of seconds. Then it is good as long as it still is a little warm at restart.
Are you experiencing bad gas mileage too?
I am about to check the codes, cause from what I've been reading it is almost for certain KS.

really ****ed and i am sure the guy from who i bought the car didnt take good car of the max.. now i have ppl saying clean the fuel injector, replace the starter, change the knock sensor, clean the throttle body !!

which one should i do or shoudlnt do or should i do all of them ...
???

but i am very thankful to all these ppl who are helping me out :d

to clean the fuel filter do i just have to pour the cleaner in my tank and start the car or should i do this while my car is not started?

I would imagine replacing the fuel filter would be better than attempting to clean it. I haven't done it on the Max, but on 2 previous cars and it was cheap and easy.
I am going to check for codes this week and I suggest you do the same. Both of us will probably come up with the KS code. If you don't know how to do it, go to the "how to FAQ's" section at the top of the threads in the 4th gen discussion.
Good luck

I had this exact problem in my honda accord. The first time it was a relay for the fuel pump, and the second time it was the ignition switch. I am not sure whether these parts could be the problem, but possibly. Later

alright, looks like ya'll have got everything covered. the same problems you're havin are the same i was, and as for the laggin, replace the fuel injectors. with max's, i don't know what it is, but even after i did those two things, it seemed to lag pretty bad, especially in warmer weather, but if you replace your fuel injectors, or really get them cleaned out good, it'll run perfect. and the sound when you start your max, if it's when you're already movin, it's probably the axel, if it's just when you start, almost positive it's the starter. starters are cheap and not really hard to replace. and just make sure if you plan on just cleanin out your fi's that you get somethin from nissan, or somethin that's considered "premium" so it won't mess up anything and will work. also, check your spark plugs for the gas mileage. if they're okay, but need to be replaced soon, get some iridium ngk's. good luck.
