I was driving to my house last night. Going down Jericho TPK. Stop at the red light by New York Ave. A 2003 or 04 Mitsubishi Lancer pulled next to me. I don’t know if it was the one with the Turbo. All I Know It got a pretty big Spoiler and Altezza looking lights. I didn’t take good look at the front hood. So any way the light turn green and I step on my gas slightly, I have automatic GLE. I see the Lancer shifting gears and picking up pretty fast. I step on my gas all the way down, RPM goes all the way to 6000 RPM the auto tranny shifts. And it looks like I am not moving and the lancer has me like by two cars. Since my intake is pretty loud I could not hear any kind of Blow out Valve sound coming out of the Lancer. I did Catch up with the lancer but its like my car was 80 sec slower then the lancer, from the start line. This has me baffled, Not sure, I know that the Regular Lancer comes 120 HP @ 5,500 rpm; 130 ft lb, is there anyway if that was the regular lancer, could have take the Maxima? I mean I know the maxima is a lot Heavier but I cant see it loosing to a car that has only 120 HP which I don’t know how much of that goes to the wheels. In other hand the Lancer EVO has the turbo and pushes out 271 bhp @ 6500 rpm and 273 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm. I don’t know, I was kind of Disappointed last night. Maybe it was an EVO but for some reason I think It was not.
I just want it to share this because maybe there is something wrong with my car? Although I had maintained my car very well, and when I drive my car I feel the power, But last not it was not enough.

Well sorry about posting this. I hope it was an EVO. I know it is not the weekend. I was coming home from Collage and I was kind of board. I don't regularly race people on the road. I have expensive insurance to begin with. I kind of went after this car; I notice the driver was hot girl. She looked very good. Tried to Impress her, but it didn't work

well thats my luck, may be if i had stick shift and 60 shot of nos or turbo or super charger, I had some chance of taking the lancer. what can you do. I still like my Maxima. Maybe one day I'll have extera money for SuperCharger or something in that nature.

Thats how I met my girl...I had a 93 Accord Sedan with an H22 Prelude motor. She had a 91 (same color as mine) with a OEM F22 Turbo and she smoked me from a light and I even had a rolling start. She flagged me down at the next light and tried to tell me what I needed to do to make my car faster (go figure). Been together since then.

 

altezza lights + scoop in the front = evo. its faster then my friends 02 m3 in the quarter, which is low 13's. boost controler = 12's easy, so dont feel bad because it wasnt even going to be close.

Well, we both have 99 SE's and 04 SE's so we are competing on who can find the most Mods for the 04. They haven't really came out with too much stuff worth buying for the 04 plus I am still trying to hang with the payments.

 

i have a 97 max with mods. i smoked a 94 mustang 5.0 with exhaust, headers, intake, etc. and, to rule anything out, the kid driving is an oval track racer so he knew how to drive it. i smoked him off the line and he never gt back past my rear door. the 330 story sounds weak, though. how modded was the 330 because i smoked a 330 in my 1989 saab 900 turbo off the line and on the highway (granted it was auto) and that thing isnt wouldn't beat my max, although the thing whips! thought id throw my two cents in.

First of all, Newb, unless you have a turbo in your max, you didn't smoke any 5.0 mustang. You could have beat him by a little possibly, but not a lot.

Second, BMW's can be fixed up really easy. There is something about those German cars that people can tweak up pretty easily.

 

Yup, you're right. I think a 5-spd Ralliart would be a good race for an auto 4th gen.

 

A similar thing happened to me with a Mitsu last year when I first got my max:

I was on the interstate going like 75, when I passed this Eclipse that had a body kit on it and some rims, and a fart can. I thought, "this is probably one of the million guys that wants to be like the Fast and Furious, but just put some wheels on and a muffler that is loud." Well, when I got in the left lane to pass him, I downshifted to 3rd, and took off up past 100 mph or so. Well, just then, I was in my mirror that he pulled into the left lane and tried to come after me. I slowed down and let him catch up to me, and then when he got beside me, I put it in 3rd again and punched it. We were already probably going like 60 mph at the time, and we ran it up pretty good. Well, by the time we reached 115 or so, he was probably about 1 car length in front of me. I went home and was dumbfounded that I just got beat by a ricer Eclipse. Well, I later found out from my car expert brother that in that year, Mitsibishi made an all-wheel drive, turbo Eclipse that was very fast. Had to be the one, because it was really fast.

 

my bro rented one of those lancers,a nd trust me i would not of beaten you at all! on thing though they can handle a curve like a champ...even the base modle. we put that car through it's exercises! rental car!

as a matter of fact i was tailgatin this red evo last night myself. sweeeeeeeeeeet car. i was following him for 10 min and i was absolutly loving the blow off valve on him. we were cruizin and then this riced out prelude turned into our street and started haulin ***. and i was like "oh oh, im about to witness some crazy race soon". the evo floored, all i heard was PSHHHHHH PSHHHHH PSHHHHHHH and it flew by the prelude and slammed on brakes to stop by red light. prelude with big *** dual exhaust pulled by it and i was sure that i was about to see some nice race in just a few seconds. ( too bad the street had only 2 lane or id join them and at least beat the prelude if i had a good launch).

anyways i hear the evo revvin it. the light goes green and the prelude takes off like a **** while the evo sat there for 2-3 seconds. i was right behind the evo i immediatly changed lanes and floored (went chasin the prelude) but as soon as i got into the lane next to evo, i saw him take off and DAAAAMN guys. INSANE, i just cant describe it. but what i saw was amazing. the honduh already had like 2 cars on the evo but guess what, it got KILLED ! omg unbelievably fast.

what do they run? 4.7 or 4.8? around there huh?

Ok, let me make something clear, if I knew that was a EVO I would never attempt racing it. I did not know, I thought this lancer was moded with the big Spoiler. I thougt , it is the regular Lancer they put the EVO spoiler on it. Well Now I know I am wrong. Thanks for your Advice, you sound like you never finish high school.

I agree, I don't know how someone who knows even the slightest bit about cars could ever mistake a regular lancer for an evo. That's like mistaking a stock mustang saleen for a regular stock V6 mustang - COMON!



...and yes, EVO's are bad A$$ - no questions asked! It still amazes me that a little sedan with 4 cylinders, turbo, and slight (let me emphasize SLIGHT) tunning WILL completely own the new M3 in EVERY aspect! Yes, I know, it would own it even when stock, but I mean TOTAL OWNAGE here.
